Are there CDs that you are after (and how much would you pay for them?) / Lists of "wanted CDs"

I could do with selling some CDs, to make space as much as anything.

In the olden days, one of the "collector-y" music shops (possibly eil.com?) used to publish a list of the CDs/records/memorabilia they wanted with a price they were willing to pay (which generally wasn't loads but gave an indication of the items value). Are there any similar lists out there?

I can't quite motivate myself to sell a load of things on Discogs or similar, at the minute.

And on a slight tangent, are there CDs you are after?

I bet if you list the cds you're wanting to sell people will snap them up. A "CDs for sale" thread sounds pretty bad ass.

i’ve been collecting discs for 4 years now, and have a nice little library of about 300 titles. they were all in-store purchases, mostly used. sure, there’s plenty of stuff in my itunes from soulseek that i’d love on disc, but i feel like deliberately seeking out titles through discogs for online purchase is just not really the same buzz as finding them by chance in the record shop - which happens quite often for me, somehow

one month passes...

I've been decorating which has involved moving at least 5000 CDs to paint a wall. I was expecting to find new life forms behind the Ikea Billy Bookcases but it's mostly just the shells of dead spiders. Anyway, I keep finding CDs of which I think "That might be great but I'm never going to play it again unless I'm checking to see if it is actually great."

Maybe the answer is to scan CDs on Music Magpie or similar and if they offer more than 50p then selling it (but not to Music Magpie).

I'm being quite bad at "Ah, I haven't played that for 20 years ... but I might want to play it some time."

My own take is more like "yeah, realistically I'm probably never playing that one again, but I like the way it looks on the shelf, and just seeing it reminds me of the days when I was really into it."

I just went through a slight slimming-down of my CD collection and was amazed at the things I've had for 20+ years without ever touching. Or bands where I have 5 of their CDs but am not sure I ever really liked them

I've got a space - three large Ikea Billy bookcases with extra shelves plus a tiny bit more - and I'd like my CDs to fit on there. I think there's probably joy in the room not feeling any more full than that.

Ha! Well, yes.

I recognise a few, but what's the one on the top of the front second column from the right?

Dan Worsley, Sunday, 23 March 2025 22:18 (eight months ago)

that column is my finders keepers collection.
which is, of course, now taller.

"A 70 minute transmission of cosmic aquatic folklore, flickering luminescent lullabies & hand-plucked pop compiled and mixed by Jane Weaver and Andy Votel."

Sounds intriguing.

enjoy.

The compulsion to keep things is strong. Like, I'm never willingly going to play The House of Love's "The Beatles and the Stones" ever again. I've no idea why I even kept the various CD singles in the first place.
