i don't follow the current dance/electronic/techno/house threads (i totally should but sheesh i got enough rabbit holes of mine own thank ya very much)
anyway, i'd love to know what people are playing. avant/not avant/old/new. whatever. you know me. my scope is boundless. my bounds know no scope. i don't want to tread on anyone's dance toes. maybe post about stuff here that is not bobbins or what have you.
i'm STILL catching up on the 90s. i slow.
i've been going on a bender. i blame the snow. its the perfect atmosphere for what i've been playing.
i'm currently listening to the classique Psyche/BFC Elements 1989-1990 by Carl Craig and i think i could die for his drum sounds. jesus. so beautiful. endlessly listenable. and fresh as a daisy! how is this stuff so old????
my other chartbuster today was General Magic & Pita - Live and Final Fridge. So great! I swear I saw my CD player smiling! Why wasn't i listening to this in 1995? i should really do a deep dive on those mego dudes sometime. if anyone has any Peter Rehberg recommendations for me...
i'll be here sometimes. all are welcome.

Carl Craig is a genius. Questlove! Detroit needs a 4-hour doc!

Bakground is becoming one of my favorite artists of the past 5 or so years… they do slow “lo-fi”ish/LPF atmospheric jungle/breaks, also some really pretty ambient. The chords and melodies combined with the graininess of the synth pads really do it for me.https://bakground.bandcamp.com/album/bumps-n-breakshttps://lobsterthereminmusic.bandcamp.com/album/90s-living-ep

there have been some really cool Suzanne Ciani releases over the last couple years, and all the Finders Keepers ones are now on her Bandcamp

I'm listening to Witchman - Explorimenting Beats from 1997. It definitely sounds like 1997. Even the title gives it away. I like beats though so I'm good. Good for cleaning the bedroom on a federal holiday. I've never played it before.

listening to Funktio 1 comp now. from 1996. Perfect for that howling wind outside my window. Sheesh. It wailed all night and its still going. So cold out there. I'm staying inside with some frosty finn beats.

Listening to Panacea - Low-Profile Darkness from 1997. I'm not a huge Drum & Bass person but I like this album a lot. Maybe I just like dark/industrial DnB the best. The beats are different too then the beats most people would think of if they think of DnB. You know? So maybe I really like DnB as long as it doesn't sound too much like DnB! Haha! I guess that's just Drill & Bass when all is said and done. also breakcore stuff. techstep. i dig that stuff. I have warmed up to more jungle/dnb over the years though. It just wasn't my thing. and few people enjoy the amen break as much as me. I tend to go for hardcore/gabber when i want to go positively MENTAL, man. This makes me want to put on some Techno Animal. or Alec Empire! i swear that ATR/AE stuff sounds so good to me now after not listening to it for, like, ever. since the 90s. i'm in the mood, i guess.

My pal Gregory - who used to make cool electronic sounds as Servitor - gave me a ton of CDrs of Orange Milk Records stuff in 2019 and I've been playing them ever since. Played some tonight. This stuff always sounds good to me. One of those labels where I basically like everything they put out. I hope this music doesn't get forgotten. But maybe people still dig it. I have no idea. I need a Foodman box set.

this is definitely one of the strangest things i've heard in a long time and not for everyone. one long track of drum machine and synth/keyboard and one long track of...??? i dig it. results may vary.

Been listening to this South Korean producer Yetsuby lately. She's 1/2 of Salamanda, and that band and her solo music is really quite beautiful.
New album 4EVA is quite something
