We need to have a rolling thread that's not exclusively for YOUR mixes or for ilx to reify its idea of a "classic mix" but to capture the state of music as curated by DJs. just imo it remains one of the pure forms of creative curation when done really well. Also, it's difficult to actually curate which mixes are worth hearing--not sure how philip sherburne has done it so long, among others--because to give something a fair hearing takes so long and there are so many mixes out there!
Lets use the ilx collective will to share our experiences
What mixes are you really feeling? Ill kick it off with this new iconic release

Thanks, I neglected to start a thread for this year. Or last year.

I regret putting great in the title. people are less likely to put interesting things in when they think its just for 'great' stuff. I should have said 'great or interesting'

Loving this Sanctuary Trushmix. Didn't know I needed two hours of deep, dubby, no-vocals house music but I absolutely did.
Just rolls on and on.

I love the Full Intention track at the 40m mark in that mix.

Dozzy! Beautiful. That track at 1h50m would do nicely with an endless loop remix!

Acid Pauli always plays the most obscure stuff that you can never find anywhere - except this time, I did. In November 2024, he played at Uganda's Nyege Nyege festivaland the first track (first 6 minutes) is a total banger (audience recording though) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yswb6WXSXtQ - for the Summer Jams 2025 thread that I couldn't find yet :-)
... it's his own remix of a Cape Verdian song that's coming out on Friday. https://dubiks.com/2025/06/14/acid-pauli-remixes-val-xalinos-danca-danca-tmanche/

Summery mix with some past and (at least relatively) current bobbins pairing off nicely.

Pretty curious about the Mark Ernestus amapiano mix too, even if that's not really my thing tbh
― Jordan s/t (Jordan), Tuesday, 12 August 2025 20:15 (three months ago)
seems like several of the RA1000 mixes are worth listening to, the one i caught this morning was sama' abdulhadi's, which was phenomenal the whole way through, great build

thought mark ernestus's interview accompanying his mix was v interesting.
Is there a particular RA Podcast that has had a significant impact on you? If so, why?
No.
Can you share a mix that's particularly special to you? What makes it a stand out?

Yeah realised as I've got through the full six hours it's better than any of the big RA ones. The last two hours or so in particular are amazing.

Piers Harrison is fantastic when he covers the Test Pressing NTS show and is great value on Instagram
― boxedjoy, Tuesday, 26 August 2025 17:18 (two months ago)
also puts out some good edits as Harri Pierson which took me far longer to figure out than it ought to have done
― Reggaeton Sax (NickB), Tuesday, 26 August 2025 18:16 (two months ago)
Anyone recognise the track with the Prince vocal near the end of that mix? Not sure whether the vocal is lifted or it's a remix or what, but it is quality.
I love the mix in general but the last two hours are elite.

I'm only about two hours into this five and a half hour mix, by a Greek DJ called Petit Bear, for Music From Memory, but it's absolutely brilliant imo. I haven't recognised a single tune and it's sort of triphop and dub, but very deep and interesting throughout. Already feels one I'll be coming back to a lot.
― LocalGarda, Friday, 24 October 2025 18:31 (one month ago)
^^^ mix is lovely so far, thanks LocalGarda.

― she freaks, she speaks (map), Saturday, 25 October 2025 00:07 (four weeks ago)
Yeah it is cool, I got about four hours in last night. I started to know a few tunes after two hours or so and it got a bit more Balearic, loosely, but there were quite a few records in the opening bit that I would like to ID.
― LocalGarda, Saturday, 25 October 2025 05:40 (four weeks ago)
This one, by the same DJ, is really cool too.

This seven hour Tim Reaper mix is epochal for fans of bass music. A bit disappointing he devoted more focus to hardcore than jungle, but sandwiched between amazing dubstep and drum & bass it still works very well overall.

Ok not so much "hardcore" as just straight techno what do I know. Whaddya whaddya. (Mostly skimmed thru that part on the first part. It kicks too obv.) Fook this shite mix. Just be listening to it on repeat for the next six months brb.

Would love if anyone could break down just a portion of it for me. Didn’t realize he was such a big brain, this is like a mind dump from one of the top heads of our times.

Im obsessed w this Traxx mix
https://on.soundcloud.com/Q1gWNEIojIuhPBti4p
6 hrs and worth every minute… some weird and interesting edits in here I’ve never heard before, one of a song from the live & die in LA soundtrack that’s turned into some kind of hypnotic jacking track… I think Traxx has gotten a “bad rap” as a “purist” or something in the past but this stuff makes a good argument the rhythmic feel of 80s Chicago is a self replenishing template for something that feels very modern and relevant
― ok (D-40), Wednesday, 19 November 2025 04:33 (five days ago)
(Also, opens with a tribute to optimo)
sick, love it. i didn't know traxx had a reputation as a purist, i think he's consistently one of the most exciting djs out there
― karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Wednesday, 19 November 2025 16:32 (five days ago)
maybe the reputation is based on his weird comments on soundcloud
― karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Wednesday, 19 November 2025 16:33 (five days ago)
I like his weird comments generally I am thinking more of stuff like this (admittedly his profile has risen the last decade or so so maybe less of an issue)

― ok (D-40), Wednesday, 19 November 2025 18:02 (five days ago)
the edit he does of a psychic tv interlude where he stretches it out for like 8 minutes is insane
― ok (D-40), Wednesday, 19 November 2025 18:06 (five days ago)
oof, that mizek review is rough. i hear so much more nuance in the production choices traxx made beyond just fetishism of the past. based on his mixes, i have to think the rough, noisy textures are deliberately designed to sit well next to other records that sound like that
― karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Wednesday, 19 November 2025 20:10 (five days ago)
from interviews ive read with traxx it seems like it is more about how fun it is to make records with hardware (vs staring at a computer screen /software) than it is about adherence to purism though he does see himself in a kind of lineage or dialogue with an aspect of the ron hardy aesthetic that is 'lost' in much contemporary dance production
― ok (D-40), Wednesday, 19 November 2025 20:13 (five days ago)
ive def had that experience diving into this stuff where I hear songs like the original "Jack my body" by nick non stop or the sleazy d "trust track" (as opposed to the more canonized "i've lost control") and I feel like i'm getting this much sharper picture of what some of the early house was tapping into that is kind of lost when you see these compiled peaks or obvious hits
