"Land Of 1000 Dances" vs. "Don't You Just Know It" vs. "Ya Ya" is gonna be tough, I gave us two weeks on this one.

Sunday bump, lol poor Wolfman

sleeve, Sunday, 2 March 2025 17:22 (three months ago)

A lot of good-to-great ones on there, including (I think) at least four that are in American Graffiti or Mean Streets.

1. "For Your Precious Love," Impressions
2. "Since I Don't Have You," Skylines
3. "A Sunday Kind of Love," Harptones (there's a typo there from either you or them)
4. "Duke of Earl," Gene Chandler
5. "Endless Sleep," Jody Reynolds

Jody Reynolds has this great song in The Leftovers called "The Girl from King Marie" that isn't even remotely like "Endless Sleep" (more like Trini Lopez).

clemenza, Sunday, 2 March 2025 17:30 (three months ago)

Speaking of typos...Skyliners.

clemenza, Sunday, 2 March 2025 17:39 (three months ago)

lol

this was just C&P'd from Discogs so the typo is prob there and not the record itself

sleeve, Sunday, 2 March 2025 17:42 (three months ago)

lots of amazing music here, went with Maurice Williams

budo jeru, Sunday, 2 March 2025 18:45 (three months ago)

Endless Sleep or Western Movies of Suspicion imo but it’s wall to wall bangers.

It's kinda nice to see that there are still so many oldies to discover, there's like ten here I'd never even heard of.

Unless you were there, it's hard to appreciate how famous American Graffiti made Wolfman Jack for the next few years. Both the Guess Who and Todd Rundgren wrote songs about him (Rundgren's actually preceeded the movie), he appeared on The Odd Couple and Emergency! (reading his Wikipedia, not like I remembered that) and other TV shows, plus the Sgt. Pepper movie. And I figure he must have been on Hollywood Squares.

clemenza, Sunday, 2 March 2025 20:58 (three months ago)

Well into the '80s! He had a Saturday Morning cartoon that ultimately got recycled into another Saturday Morning cartoon

Though it was a huge ratings disaster and that probably was just part of the Big Chill-i-fication of all kids media around that time

Whiney G. Weingarten, Sunday, 2 March 2025 21:11 (three months ago)

I was curious as to whether he's in the HOF--no. The only radio DJs I can see are Alan Freed and Tom Donahue. Sam Phillips and Don Cornelius and Johnny Otis are also listed, but they're more famous for other things (ditto Alice Cooper, who's on the list I'm looking at--maybe he did a show before forming a band? Sly Stone, also).

clemenza, Sunday, 2 March 2025 21:17 (three months ago)

Wolfman hosted The Midnight Special for most (or maybe all) of its run.

Alice Cooper has hosted a couple syndicated Classic Rock radio show series since the 2000s.

Okay, heteros are cutting edge this year, too. (C. Grisso/McCain), Sunday, 2 March 2025 21:20 (three months ago)

Yeah, just looked that up--Cooper turns up because of a syndicated show he launched in 2004. May as well include Bob Dylan on the list, too.

clemenza, Sunday, 2 March 2025 21:20 (three months ago)

Of course, forgot all about The Midnight Special. He probably turned up on Battle of the Network Stars one year!

clemenza, Sunday, 2 March 2025 21:22 (three months ago)

DJ/mob consigliere Steven Van Zandt also in the Hall.

clemenza, Sunday, 2 March 2025 21:25 (three months ago)

re-listening to this and damn I might have to vote "Tutti Frutti", what an achievement

sleeve, Sunday, 2 March 2025 22:57 (three months ago)

Well, of course.

Nah, it was just the era where like the Fat Boys did song with the Beach Boys, and the California Raisins sang Marvin Gaye and Little Richard was singing Mother Goose songs with Shelley Duvall

Whiney G. Weingarten, Monday, 3 March 2025 20:39 (three months ago)

ah gotcha, the sixties crossover comeback

sleeve, Monday, 3 March 2025 20:40 (three months ago)

Guessing this is one of the worst things to come out of that (pretty sure I've never heard it, although I was working at a big-chain record store at the time):

The Tee Set are so fish-out-of-water here...How do you even describe "Ma Belle Amie"? No connection at all to anything else on the album that I can see--I sort of group them in my mind with Zager & Evans, Mashmakhan, and Mouth & MacNeal. One of the 8-tracks I had as a kid.

"Dedicated To The One I Love"

I'm pretty sure this song was used in a key scene in a 1980's horror movie called House and it made a big impression on me. I should probably vote for Little Richard but I won't.

Cow_Art, Friday, 14 March 2025 04:24 (two months ago)

if it was the 5 royales version i might have considered it

budo jeru, Friday, 14 March 2025 04:32 (two months ago)

Went with my favorite of the Girl Group group--Shoop Shoop!

Hideous Lump, Friday, 14 March 2025 13:06 (two months ago)

All-time favorite from this list would be Since I Don't Have You, but I voted for The Shepherd Sisters - Alone, which is my favorite that I've discovered from this comp (I have vol 1 and 3 just from dollar bin scores). Love the la las and ya yas, and the reverb takes the cake.
