Lola Young - This Wasn't Meant for You Anyway

"Messy" is one of my favorite singles in years... it's almost a perfect song, IMO. I was hooked as soon as I heard a few bars of it; and listened to it on repeat for a week, singing along theatrically in my car. (I know it was a UK hit last year, but it's only just now "breaking" here in the US, and I was unaware of her until now.)

The album has some other good songs; but unfortunately the production (or mastering) is not to my taste... the sound is harsh and "brickwalled," drums sound like pie pans being smashed together, etc. Fortunately, "Messy" isn't marred by this!

Going by the (great) live clips below, she seems like a must-see performer. I tried snagging tix last week to a theater show in April (she's playing in L.A. after Coachella), but it was one of those things where I sat in the AXS "waiting room" for 20 mins after the on-sale time, only to find 0 tickets left.

i really like her - "Don't Hate Me" more than "Messy," it's got even more snarl to it.

not an artist i can imagine retaining her best qualities if she gets too famous; there's this underdog punk part of her that seems necessary to the music
