Now That I Found You, Want You In My Room, Too Much, Party For One all bangers

groovypanda, Thursday, 6 March 2025 07:53 (two months ago)

Probably Everything He Needs, a guaranteed uncontrollable smile-trigger for me.

Julien tho...

One of those. Need to sleep on it

Last round I pulled LDR masterpiece, IMO. This round I'm polling the album after their masterpiece.

Want You in My Room

Indexed, Friday, 7 March 2025 22:56 (two months ago)

"julien" over "want you in my room"

decent album that falls off towards the end

ufo, Friday, 7 March 2025 23:31 (two months ago)

I think the second half of the album is strong, if you're not counting bonus tracks!

Voting for Too Much, but some of my other favorites:

Want You In My Room - Two minutes and forty-six seconds is a grossly insufficient amount of time to spend in CRJ's room!
I'll Be Your Girl - Give us more of this pop rock.
Automatically In Love - I was automatically in love with those vooop synths
Right Words, Wrong Time - One of her best ballads, I think.
Real Love - On the list of songs that actually make me cry.

oh but “for sure” is amazing donna lewis-core

ivy., Saturday, 8 March 2025 16:00 (two months ago)

No, you're right - For Sure is good. I'm not a Party For One fan.

peace, man, Saturday, 8 March 2025 16:38 (two months ago)

could make this the greatest album of all time if you folded in a few side b tracks

ivy., Saturday, 8 March 2025 16:39 (two months ago)

my picks would be “stay away” and “comeback”

Been listening to this a lot as our almost four year old is really into Carly Rae Jepsen videos at the moment. She's hooked on Too Much and "the cat song" right now.

Voted for Julian as it's such a classy opener. Feels Right is the only song that doesn't feel essential here. This, Emotion and The Loveliest Time are her three masterpieces.

my picks would be “stay away” and “comeback”

+1

I have a question that has troubled me for some time regarding a song on this record.

in happy not knowing, during the verses, does anyone else hear, beneath everything, an ongoing sort of muffled stuttering utterance of vowel sounds? it sounds like carly's voice, cut up and strung together. I haven't listened in a while but playing on youtube just now it's still there, just as it is, for me, on the CD.

conrad, Monday, 10 March 2025 11:36 (two months ago)

I find an instrumental version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aj5TRjKs24o

and there are the sounds, easier to pick out: a kind of deeply muffled wonk-wonk, wonk-wonk, wonk-wonk. I think if it were slightly louder it wouldn't be so problematic for me but this sound, in the mix, makes listening to the recording extremely disconcerting and an unpleasant experience!

conrad, Monday, 10 March 2025 11:46 (two months ago)

i love how in the cover photo she's just inches away from the pretending-there's-someone-making-out-with-me move. on that note i enjoy "Party for One" more than i did at the time!

maf you one two (maffew12), Monday, 10 March 2025 16:19 (two months ago)

xp i get that but love the song. For me the "Real Love" chorus is like that! i could have picked any song except that or Feels Right. No mentions of "No Drug Like Me"? well that bangs too. head/high/holdon!

maf you one two (maffew12), Monday, 10 March 2025 16:29 (two months ago)

rather i mean Real Love's very pronounced wonk wonk sounds... what even is that. sounds like a heavily processed voice turned into some kinda trumpet

maf you one two (maffew12), Monday, 10 March 2025 16:31 (two months ago)

this is probably my favorite carly album

the right answer is probably "julien" but "want you in my room", "i'll be your girl", "automatically in love" and "real love" are all str8 classics to me. i'm gonna vote "automatically in love", there's a sorta yo-yo effect to the production that really mirrors the feeling the song is describing, and it's the kinda song was born to sell

"wonk-wonk, wonk-wonk, wonk-wonk"

You are not alone. I think it's just a sampled instrument - it sounds as if they were trying to evoke the tweet-tweet synth solo in Michael Jackson's "Rock With You", which is anachronistic (the rest of the song sounds like Italodisco, which postdates "Rock With You" by a few years) but perhaps it was postmodern. e.g. as per the following, but wind to 02:16:

as I say I think the problem is that it's so in the background that it sounds to me incongruous and intrusive :(

conrad, Friday, 14 March 2025 21:22 (two months ago)

if we did side B, “Comeback” would have won for me— I honestly think it’s the best on either album

butt dumb tight my boners got boners (the table is the table), Friday, 14 March 2025 22:01 (two months ago)

“want you in my room” is a great choice
