Is Electron Blue the worst REM single? It's certainly one of their least memorable.

talking of career lows, the Fatboy Slim cover of The Joker has to be the worst record Bootsy Collins has ever been involved in surely?

I don't go along with the idea that Dakota is the only good Stereophonics song because I like Local Boy in the Photograph and I Wouldn't Believe Your Radio as well, but it's definitely more of a career high.

This is Bjork for me. The LCD soundsystem track was enjoyable at the time but haven't listened to it in ages.

This was the week JK & Joel took over the Radio 1 chart show. As a result almost anything here that wasn't playlisted by the station was skipped over.

I myself played "Triumph of a Heart" on radio a few months ago. Might be my choice here - maybe "Dakota" idk - altho I'm fond of probably most of these songs. "Star to Fall" has a good idea, or borrows a then very popular one at any rate - superclub rescue operation of 80s song I don't like much - but Mylo's "In My Arms" pisses all over it. "An Honest Mistake" I sorta prefer to any Killers song save WYWY, a great de facto one hit wonder. "Lift Me Up" (future F1 theme), well I love the chords, altho the Steve Angello mix of "Raining Again" is comfortably the best track of the year to carry Moby's name. "Electron Blue" not even the worst single off Around the Sun imo. "Daft Punk" reminds me of The Album vol. 5 from the same month, but I was probably more familiar with "Disco Infiltrator" because of - again from the same month - the Felix da Housecat Mixmag CD I played incessantly. "The Joker" was, up to that point, the worst Fatboy single. Great video though.

I posted about "Dakota" here when it came out "they've made a good record" to general nodding.

Went with LCD as I don't hear it that often in my life.

Imagine if the Replacements were from Wales and didn't have a sense of humour

One thing I think about now and then re: The Joker is that the '90 reissue of the original ofc tied with Groove Is in the Heart for no. 1 sales but the honour went to TJ for having the bigger sales increase, nonsense rule etc. Possibly made aware of this, was Norman intending to redo The Joker like Groove Is in the Heart? It wouldn't have crossed my mind if it wasn't for getting Bootsy in.

I'm pretty big on Palookaville otherwise tbf.

"the '90 reissue of the original ofc tied with Groove Is in the Heart for no. 1 sales"

The other thing I remember about The Joker is that it was one in a string of popular singles that was revived after appearing in a Levi's ad. There was "Should I Stay Or Should I Etc" by The Clash, which topped the charts in 1991, and [insert more examples, look on Reddit or something - ed] It's a peculiar UK cultural thing that probably means nothing outside the UK.

I mean, in the United States Levi's jeans aren't exotic, are they? They're just jeans. They're just ordinary jeans. In your country Marmite is weird and jeans are normal. Whereas in the UK Marmite is normal and jeans are an icon of freedom and individuality. I remember owning several pairs and thinking "these are swell" and "aw shucks" and "root bear tastes of mouthwash" and "I have nothing against pubic hair". Because I was thinking of the word hegemony. Pubic hair. Hedge. It doesn't make sense.

I can't find a definitive list. Stiltskin. Mr Oizo. And surprisingly Biosphere in one of the most 1990s commercials of all time:
