The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess finished at #56 in ILMs Top 77 albums poll.

Bee OK, Thursday, 27 March 2025 00:59 (two months ago)

Started off with a bang and ending with one too, tho there is one more to go this is the last single album for this series. I don't like polling albums that are this new but it's already a year and a half old, plus year of impact and all that sort of messed up both songs and album placement in ILMs polls.

Bee OK, Thursday, 27 March 2025 01:00 (two months ago)

'red wine supernova'

of the beatless ballads, 'california' is my fav. good album!

glum mum (map), Thursday, 27 March 2025 01:37 (two months ago)

The high points on this album are extraordinarily.

Hot to Go! hijacks the serotonin-producing part of my brain but I could’ve gone with four or five other choices here

josh az (2011nostalgia), Thursday, 27 March 2025 08:01 (two months ago)

I was so excited about making this poll. I think I have been waking up every morning with a different song in my head, so I needed to do it.

Bee OK, Friday, 28 March 2025 17:35 (two months ago)

"casual" is the best but i'm voting for "naked in manhattan" bc no one else will. joyous. wish i were still in the state of being really excited to have lesbian sex with someone but when i was, no other song sufficed

ivy., Friday, 28 March 2025 17:36 (two months ago)

It's funny, "Coffee" was the first song I heard from this (around December 2023), so had no idea then how upbeat the rest of the album would be. I'll still go with that, as a perfect underrated love ballad, with "Casual" in 2nd place. (Such a consistent album, though, that I could make a case for almost all the other songs.)

Gonna abstain from this one

I will say she’s better than Lana but not by much

my favorite herbs are fennel and Drake (DJP), Friday, 28 March 2025 17:42 (two months ago)

"casual" is pretty t. swift-y, i think with different instrumentation it could be a pop-country song (about being in a lesbian situationship, which is exactly what pop country should be about in 2025, but i digress), and the tiny desk version really leans in that direction. love that she's furthering this association on "the giver"

ivy., Friday, 28 March 2025 17:47 (two months ago)

red wine supernova was my original favorite, but there are better-written songs on here, and pink pony and hot to go have basically eclipsed it as earworms for me

pink pony club is gonna endure for a long long time tho, and isn't (quite) as much of an 80s pastiche as htg, so that's the one

when I DJ'd a "Pink Pony Club" party a few months ago I felt totally different about previously under-rated Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl and Guilty Pleasure, hearing them at volume and seeing people sing along was excellent, but every single track on this would have made a great single at any point in the past forty years.

boxedjoy, Friday, 28 March 2025 18:06 (two months ago)

i got good mileage out of hamming up 'my kink is karma' for the dance floor for a few months there. you have to pretend to have an orgasm at the thought of an ex suffering, which i always enjoyed very much. one time i feel like i got a little too into it and some people gave me 'you're nuts' looks lol.

glum mum (map), Friday, 28 March 2025 18:15 (two months ago)

it's gonna be real weird when i listen to these songs again in 5 years or whatever. since i'm no longer djing and back on old rock bullshit for the time being. like a perfectly preserved time capsule.

glum mum (map), Friday, 28 March 2025 18:19 (two months ago)

'kaleidoscope' is a really nice song

glum mum (map), Friday, 28 March 2025 18:20 (two months ago)

tough choice btw Coffee and Casual.

piscesx, Friday, 28 March 2025 18:28 (two months ago)

Hot To Go got my attention but Casual is best.

Cow_Art, Friday, 28 March 2025 18:45 (two months ago)

"Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl" because it's what I am.

I'll have to decide among Naked in Manhattan, Red Wine Supernova, Casual, After Midnight, Hot to Go - the album's packed with hits

erasingclouds, Saturday, 29 March 2025 00:24 (two months ago)

crüt, I recently emailed you through ILX about an artist poll but ? Not sure if I actually have time for it now however.

Bee OK, Saturday, 29 March 2025 03:32 (two months ago)

pink pony club

brony james (k3vin k.), Saturday, 29 March 2025 04:38 (two months ago)

My controversial opinion, this album is too long it should end at "Naked in Manhattan." If it did, perfect album.

Bee OK, Saturday, 29 March 2025 23:10 (two months ago)

'Cause after midnight
I'm feeling kinda freaky, maybe it's the club lights

the future is now, Sunday, 30 March 2025 04:38 (two months ago)

just solely for performance i'd go "red wine supernova," but at my older age it's between "casual" for just the hilariously unexpected chorus when i first heard it or "pink pony club" which is hedwig and the angry inch condensed.

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Sunday, 30 March 2025 06:42 (two months ago)

the bangers are bangers, but this is "Casual" for me ... it was from the first time i heard it

i should have voted naked in manhattan but wasn't thinking clearly upon initial vote

@Bee OK, sorry about that! Just replied to you.

Casual

werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 31 March 2025 04:21 (two months ago)

Love this album, happy to have been one of its voters in the 2023 poll! I could vote for four or five songs, but sticking with Red Wine Supernova because that was the one that first made me take notice. So catchy, so funny, and so much better than the Oasis song it plays off of.

high-fiving whoever voted for 'my kink is karma'

glum mum (map), Tuesday, 1 April 2025 00:11 (two months ago)

'femininomenon' is the only thing here i don't like.

glum mum (map), Tuesday, 1 April 2025 00:13 (two months ago)

"It's a-, dude, can you play a song with a fucking beat?"

I voted for "Red Wine Supernova" in the end. Only discovered because of the ILM Top 77 Tracks poll from 2023. I don’t think "Pink Pony Club" even made a Top 77. Why ILM needed this poll!

Bee OK, Tuesday, 1 April 2025 00:21 (two months ago)

0 votes for coffee :( I almost went for it, instead i picked the polar opposite, feminininomenom. it's fun.
