one of the few albums to achieve this. whether to its benefit or detriment… whether “equally good” in this context means they’re all bad… that’s up to the listener to decide

album is just one long unchanging waveform

Ok is this album supposed to be pronounced “Saint Anger” or “Stanger”

I like this record. I can't play it all the way through -- for a double LP, it doesn't go in much for changes in dynamics -- but play me any 25-minute segment and I can enjoy it plenty.

Invisible Kid is my stand-out least favorite though. Some Kind of Monster has a scene I remember all these years later, where the newly-hired Robert Trujillo is bouncing joyfully all over the place while Invisible Kid plays, but even that didn't help me like the song all that much more.

It's a crazy performance art piece by a ridiculously dysfunctional band. The writing was torture, Newsted was gone, the recording was torture, the therapy was torture, the music is torture to listen to. There will never be another album like it, a public primal scream, self-flagellation that somehow saved the band.
