Though I know the least of his work outside of Free Jazz, the Scott LaFaro section of the bass duet always strikes me as the most memorable section of the record.

Only just saw this. I’m also going to abstain! But you have to hand it to Freddie Hubbard for doing this and Ascension. I also have to remind myself how early this album (Free Jazz) is—before ESP really took off, before the “October Revolution”, etc.

Slightly off topic, but speaking of Hubbard, that new live set that was released for RSD (but also affordable on CD) is pure fire. Not sure I've ever heard Freddie so intense
