Pavements OST

Has anyone else dug into yet? I didn't really have high expectations, but it's surprisingly effective. The band's performances are great but what has really surprised me are the jukebox musical portions -- even when they veer on ironic kitsch, they retain a ramshackle quality that I'd like to think was on purpose. The whole thing works as a bit of sound collage, too: All of the tracks fold into each other which makes for a pleasant journey. Not a lot of typical song choices either. It really seems built with the hardcore fan in mind.

just fucking start issuing box sets a la Grateful Dead and be done with it stop pissing around with these cutesy things, esp no one needs another edition of Circa 1762 esp. hardcore fans

I was certainly not expecting to like it as much as I do.

So, uh... Don't expect.

The drums on this version "Our Singer" are a buzzkill for me. The original is so, so great. There will never be another Gary Young.

100% agree, but it has some of the spirit.

I noticed that chage up in the ride cymbal yesterday while driving. Strange they wouldn't keep that particular nuance but it still drives. I like that it's such a forceful rendition... But yeah: Gary was a beast.

I played this a few times over the weekend. It gave me some weird melancholy stoner flashback vibes. I think I'll play it once in while. I still play Westing, Slanted, CRCR, WZ, and an old collection of Peel Sessions once in while and still love. Really grateful to have them, and all my old favorites, when feeling a little fatigue from checking out new music for a stretch.

Idk, I listened to this the other day and thought it was mostly filler with a few decent live cuts thrown in. It feels a little half-assed, which is perhaps appropriate.

I'd prefer a proper live archive or a proper tribute record I guess

Yeah, the inclusion of “Circa 1762” on this is pretty baffling.
