Dopamine Hits #1: No Surrender Gasoline Dreams

This is a just a pet project and playlist. Back in the early weeks of this hellish administration, like early February, I started posting daily dopamine hits on Facebook, little blasts of music to make myself feel good. Some of them have overt rebel-resist vibes, a lot of them were just things I felt like hearing that day. Some have obvious topicality related to the artists — obituaries in some cases, news events in others. No real rules except they should be songs I'm always happy to hear, and so far anyway I haven't repeated any artists. I've been compiling a Spotify list as I've gone, and it has served its stated purpose. I can put it on shuffle and will generally improve my mood within a few songs.

Anyway, I've hit 100 on the playlist, so I thought it'd be a dumb fun poll. Breaking it up into 4 and then will face off for the Grand Dopamine Champion. Playlist here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/17W3WaXIGGuhLRH8K0dQ9r?si=f5e506b9b40d4ee7

"No Surrender" — Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
"Police on My Back" — The Clash
"Going Underground" — The Jam
"Gasoline Dreams" — OutKast

Between these. Maybe feeling the OutKast the most right now.

i learned about so much cool music from the samples on that record. it's not like nowadays with smartphones and algorithms. young people these days don't know the pleasures of real digging. it's sad. wait a minute, wait a minute ... this isn't facebook

I used to listen to that T.I. track to get a rush, the beat is so dirty and grimy and it just goes

Jordan s/t (Jordan), Thursday, 10 July 2025 15:27 (one month ago)

The beat is great and I love the way T.I. builds from slow syrupy drawl to double-time spitting by the last verse, just an MC masterclass.

Lots of great one here, but this is an easy choice. Bring the Noise.

I woulda voted PE. I liked Going Underground until it was deconstructed/eviscerated hilariously in front of my eyes on ilm in… in a long-ass time ago.

I still kinda like that kiddo voice going “IT’S COMING!” at the start. I think that’s the song that has that.

Absolutely love that SG Goodman song, never heard of her before.

nate woolls, Sunday, 20 July 2025 20:37 (one month ago)

I really like her, but that song stands out yeah. I love how angry it is.
