rolling old punk and hardcore we are blasting

Yesterday, I started singing the chorus/finish to this song, despite not having heard it since I was about 14 years old. This was Atom's band before he became Atom & His Package.

Anyway, I listened to their whole No Idea LP last night, and I stand by my belief at the time: Fracture were a better band than Dillinger 4 and similar harder-edged pop-punk bands. They really should have been better known.

Anyway, this is the thread for old punk and hardcore we are listening to— different from skot's thread for more crusty/grindcore/metalcore stuff, which can be found here: the occasional thread for mean, nasty, ugly, evil hardcore/grind/PV/fastcore that doesn't smell good and that takes itself way too seriously

This jam has been coming to mind and I have been playing it on and off for a while.

I saw a bunch of those OHIO bands of that time but never saw these dudes.

I saw Zero Boys first reunion show back I think either 91 or 92 at Second Story in Bloomington and it was one of the most fun shows I ever saw. That place was backed and it was a huge homecoming show for punk rockers of that area.

always worth a blast. '78 recordings from band that had direct links to the New York Dolls but sound like hardcore about 3 years + early.

Stevo, Friday, 18 July 2025 14:16 (one month ago)

love Pure Hell and Zero Boys

czech hunter biden's laptop (the table is the table), Friday, 18 July 2025 17:05 (one month ago)

Who doesn't. I regret not seeing the Zero Boys when I had the chance, they must've been over to play Rebellion Festival and stopped off in London but I think there was something else on at the same time

Old punk I have been listening to this week: Karma Sutra - The Daydreams Of A Production Line Worker - anarcho/peace punk from 1987 that just got reissued. I listened to this like 20 years ago and didn't really like it because it was too mellow I think, I wanted my anarcho punk to sound like Conflict back then. I've come around to it now

Colonel Poo, Friday, 18 July 2025 23:28 (one month ago)

I've also started relistening to 90s Chumbawamba recently for similar reasons - I dismissed a lot of it at the time for not being "punk" enough - outside of a few songs off Anarchy which I did like at the time, Enough Is Enough was a big hit down the indie disco after all. One of my friends at the time said something like their politics are great but why do they sound like a bunch of schoolteachers

Colonel Poo, Saturday, 19 July 2025 00:21 (one month ago)

lol that was my reaction to Chumbawumba in my punkest days, too, but I came around to them in uni, fittingly enough— they do have a studied piece about them, but I have more tolerance for that as I get older

it's funny, I hated most dumb straightedge punk when I was younger but as a 40something old man it actually seems kind of good? and I can still just laugh at it at the same time

Classic. I also first heard the Dinosaur Jr cover probably about 91/92 when I bought Fossils. Didn't hear the original until I downloaded it from Napster on my friend's PC

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 13 August 2025 18:33 (two weeks ago)

90s Chumbawamba is my favorite! So many great songs. "Un" from 2004 is good too.

Unexpected old hardcore punk tonight, saw Kylesa in London, who currently have 2 ex-members of Nausea, so they covered Clutches

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 13 August 2025 22:10 (two weeks ago)

!!

wow some friends of mine have been posting about Nausea BITD, that's cool.

Kylesa played in our basement approx. 20 years ago

sleeve, Wednesday, 13 August 2025 22:13 (two weeks ago)

Wow that's cool. I haven't seen them since 2009. I took my late wife's nephew with me, it was his first gig! He was into death metal so I thought he might like and he did. He was 12 so I had to tell him to say he was 14 if anyone asked but nobody did

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 13 August 2025 22:39 (two weeks ago)

I'm glad I brought earplugs with me, I saw Ministry on Monday and didn't, which was a mistake lol

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 13 August 2025 22:42 (two weeks ago)

was listening to 2.5 Children Inc. the other day, I remember hearing this for the first time as a 12 year old and my mind being absolutely blown https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXkuHlRklpM

Xp - Ministry and Helmet sans ear plugs in my late teens were probably responsible for half my hearing loss …

wow the original "Chunks" is so great

one thing I love about the cover is that palm muting chirp-y metallic harmonic-y sound J gets when he's strumming between riffs... (totally forget what that technique is called, apologies!)

also Lou was low-key such a great singer in Dinosaur... 35 years later i can admit that with zero hesitation lol.

was listening to 2.5 Children Inc - never heard of this band, will check out

Red Alert album “We’ve Got the Power” - yeah good record, some good singles on No Future records around that time too. their guitarist ended up playing bass for the Cockney Rejects later on, no longer with us unfortunately

I remember playing the Gore record on college radio - this video is a perfect snapshot of a midwestern HC show in 1987. What an unmagical night!

So not sure where to put this but two members of Dayglo Abortions were arrested (Murray and Michael) while on tour -
2 members of B.C. hardcore punk band arrested in U.S. https://share.google/I8ZAY1PwoM3bAYlMs

Now initially the internet speculated that this was merely immigration related. However, opening band The Brothels quietly dropped off of the tour after August 5th without announcement or reason. Then frontman David Luna posted this today:

Which suggests that something Dayglo did on your freaked The Brothels the fuck out enough to leave.

But there's not enough to read tea leaves
