POLL of The Band - The 1975 - Being Funny in a Foreign Language poll

maybe the bee is OK? (Bee OK), Thursday, 17 July 2025 01:06 (four months ago)

Summer series continues, with an older album then what decade I was going to focus on. I switched what album I was going to poll a bunch of times, this isn't even my original idea for Paramore.

1-8 run is immaculate

miracle!!!! a miracle of a song

Xp Yeah last couple of tracks are slightly lesser but a great album in the traditio. Of Paramore making the greatest version of a thing/sound.

Gut reaction is Misery Business or crushcrushcrush but it's tough. When It Rains is also a window into where they'd go later that makes the songs around it that much better.

idk i think the only weak track here is "we are broken." "fences" and "born for this" are among the best they've ever done

WE WANT THE AIRWAVES BACK

100% agree. "We Are Broken" is by far the weakest track; the flirtation with Christian Rock there doesn't work. "Fences" is great and feels like a prototype for some of the sounds they developed on After Laughter.

"that's what you get" is my fav paramore song

some dude, Friday, 18 July 2025 02:16 (four months ago)

point i was trying to make and seems to be the consensus so far is that "we are broken" just shouldn't have made the final cut.

am i wrong or do the drums on "fences" sound similar to three door downs' "superman"? "born for this" just the perfect ending for what came before.

This album rocks, sort of forgot about that.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

You were finished long before/we had even seen the stork

One of my favorite misheard Hayley Williams lines. I've gotta give it to Pessimist, not that there's a shortage of dazzling tunes on this record.

crushcrushcrush gets runner-up for the Send Me an Angel interpolation.

I jumped on board with Brand New Eyes, and then oddly I never listened to Riot that much. I think the kind of wounded resilience that Hayley embodies on the following two albums in particular is very central to my conception of the band’s music, so this album never sunk its hooks into me so much, despite being very fun.

That said, I think it’s “Born For This” for me. “We Are Broken” aside, I think the album gets better as it goes along, almost in a straight line (it reminds me of Madonna’s ‘Bedtime Stories’ in that regard). My runner-up would probably be “crushcrushcrush” or “Fences” or “Miracle”.

I’m always slightly surprised to remember how much “Let The Flames Begin” really is the part 1 to “Part II” - kinda underscores how solidly and doggedly Paramore built on their past efforts with each release.

Also love the bonus track “Stop This Song (Love Sick Melody)” which was on my copy.

I ended up voting for "crushcrushcrush," what a great song.

'thats what you get' really swings. maybe the only song not ruined by a millennial whoop?

'when it rains' prob the one i go back to the most nowadays. 'for a pessimist' next.

some really perfect karaoke songs on this alb.

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

thought "let the flames begin" would've gotten a vote! pretty sure i coinflipped between that and "when it rains" - i really love the sequencing of those two on the album.

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Tuesday, 22 July 2025 04:25 (four months ago)

For a pessimist.. and Hallelujah both very catchy songs it has to be said now that they got 0 votes

abcfsk, Tuesday, 22 July 2025 10:24 (four months ago)

I must have forgotten to vote or something. I wrote upthread that my choice was For a Pessimist
