A while back I started playlists of songs I randomly thought of that would form my personal canon of greatness, divided by groups of years. I haven't added to or updated them in months, so here's the first group I thought of for '67-'71.

Normally probably Dusty or the Velvets, but "TV Eye" steamrollers over all!

Son of a Preacher Man: a song that should have reached the point of oversaturation long ago yet still manages to knock me out.

Red Krayola, Stooges, Sabbath

Preacher Man vs Walk On By vs What Goes On

All perfect songs, but WGO is some pinnacle of humankind, especially considering all the live version. The song fucks.

1. "Ramble Tamble"
2. "What Goes On"
3. "Darling, Be Home Soon"

this is really tough, my eye gravitated to "what goes on" and "ramble tamble" and "tv eye" and "walk on by" but it looks like they'll have some support. i'd be bummed if "hot burrito" got no votes so i'm gonna go for that one

"Darling Be Home Soon" is in many ways a lovely pop song, but I can never get by the use of the word "dawdled."

cryptosicko, Friday, 1 August 2025 14:37 (yesterday)

even tho i prefer #2 to #1

xp

"A quarter of my life is almost past" ("Darling, Be Home Soon")--what an odd way to frame being 22 years old.

The Love track is incredible so

"walk on by" but if "keep on chooglin'" had been the CCR track it would've been that
