I'm a big fan of debut album "Seasons of My Soul" by Rumer which features a lot of bacharach-inspired tunes like this one

What are your favorite Bacharach songs not by Burt himself?

This entire album is Cheer-Accident processing the death of band member Phil Bonnet 25 years later by finishing a record of Bacharach-inspired songs he'd wanted to make. It's beautiful

I don't doubt the basics of the story, but this bit on the album's bandcamp page is pretty funny: Fast forward three decades later to this scenario: Phil Bonnet (our guitarist for the entirety of the '90s) and I are talking at Solid Sound (the studio in Hoffman Estates, IL where he'd become quite beloved, engineering a multitude of local bands from Chicago and its nearby suburbs), as we take a break from recording the basic tracks for "Salad Days" (along with Jeff Libersher and Dylan Posa) on Sunday, January 31st, 1999. Phil is very excited to have recently gotten his hands on the Burt Bacharach box set, and we are listening to it in the control room. As we sit there together, blissing out to the sublime strains of "Our Day Will Come," he looks over at me and says, "I never use this word, but he's a... (pause)... (sheepishly)... genius."

Except "Our Day Will Come" isn't by Burt and isn't in that box set. Lyrics are by early Burt lyricist Bob Hilliard though.

I'm not a big Springsteen fan, but I was blown away by the Twilight Hours record in his big unreleased albums dump last month. Lush, string-heavy ballads, I think it's Bacharach-esque at times, his voice sounds amazing.

Yes also to Springsteen Twilight Hours .

Re Bacharach himself, I only recently listened to 500 songs podcast about Aretha and Say a little Prayer, which had a whole subsection on Bacharach seeing John Cage, listening to Stockhausen, and jazz, and studying songwriting with various folks

I always cite this as one of my favourite Bacharach-type songs, but I'm not sure I could explain that.

Michael Head has made a career of Bacharach inspired indie pop. This one I can imagine Dusty or Dionne singing it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFtf2oxOl7U

wow, lot's of great bacharach-vibes!

wonder if most of the composers would've been aware that they were doing something like a tribute/pastiche, or the bacharach is touch more of a general aesthetic category you can tap into
