well, we can get Journey out of the way:

Any Way You Want It (1980)
Who's Crying Now (1981)
Don't Stop Believin'(1981)
Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)(1983)

probably others depending on how you define "hit" and "arena rock" but these ones are sure bets it seems to me

Kansas (w/ Dixie Dreg Steve Morse)- "All I Wanted"

The video is a time capsule.

earlnash, Thursday, 16 October 2025 05:05 (four months ago)

While I would say Rainbow is obviously more prog ajacent (hey they did some classicalish tunes and Blackmore did eventually go all medieval on his axe), "Street of Dreams" would fit in a mix with these tunes.

earlnash, Thursday, 16 October 2025 05:09 (four months ago)

Does Queen count?

Siegbran, Thursday, 16 October 2025 06:41 (four months ago)

"Oh Daddy" by Adrian Belew seems to loosely fit the criteria

Josefa, Thursday, 16 October 2025 12:33 (four months ago)

Kansas, "Fight Fire With Fire," to me the best that them cornfed xtian proggers ever done…

Moody Blues, "The other Side of Life," absolutely excruciating, and yet hilarious…

veronica moser, Thursday, 16 October 2025 13:31 (four months ago)

not area rock exactly but:

The Korgis- "Everybody's Got to Learn Sometime"

The Korgis had two members of the prog/art pop group Stackridge.

A floating crown, but an extremely small one (President Keyes), Friday, 17 October 2025 15:36 (four months ago)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civilian_(Gentle_Giant_album)

reggie (qualmsley), Friday, 17 October 2025 17:56 (four months ago)

Civilian most definitely did not have a hit but it would've been real interesting if it had. Gentle Giant were tremendously talented and obviously willing to play ball a little, they could've morphed into something like Utopia meets The Cars
