Very much enjoying this, but I find it's very much wearing some obvious production inspiration on its sleeve. For example the obvious Thriller vibes on Dracula and Orinoco Flow vibes on Piece of Heaven

He's drifted too far from his lane for my taste. His lyrics and vocals were always a little undercooked and overvibed, but these inadequacies are painfully cringe on top of club-influenced pop music.

Aside from marketing reasons feels like this should have just been a project under his own name or a new alias.

I was able to listen to the first three tracks and dig it. Disco songs always works for me.

was digging "obsolete" 'til it did that sloppy bach thing in the outro.

most of this is deeply unnecessary, imo. it's a weak tame impala album, and an even weaker club-oriented album. "ethereal connection," besides being one of the worst song titles ever, is the most boring "trance" song i have heard in my life.

I put this on out of curiosity and my wife was laughing out loud at that one, that he had the audacity to put something like that on a record (mostly because you could only really hear kick drum in the mix).

he is just a very undistinguished producer of dance music imo, i understand the evolution of his sound, how he's gone from point A to point B to point C on an inspiration level so it's not like this is totally bewildering or anything, it's just that the resulting music falls flat for me. the last dua lipa album was really a canary in the coal mine here

In some ways I prefer this album to The Slow Rush, but both suffer from a relative lack of tunes compared to what came before, which for me is the problem with his later stuff, irrespective of chosen genre

man PFork really toasted him

I loved a full half or more of The Slow Rush, I think he can pull off this style, but these songs need more refinement. Lack of refinement might have been what he was aiming for, like Human After All or something, but it just sounds like sketches. it's frustrating because there's many good ideas here and there. I do think "Dracula" and "Afterthought" are solid tracks but man, the worst tracks are terrible
