First song BTW is called "American Crucifixion and Resurrection"; the label on the original vinyl was misprinted without the "and" (or "&") and has been fooling reissuers and listeners even since. The newspaper insert included with the original release got the name right.

this album is so moving to me because it's so clear Gaudio wants them to be in the conversation now that rock acts are making serious statements, but that his only social instincts are pretty conservative and nostalgic. so the album expresses a yearning to be part of a moment that is, in part, a reaction against what its makers are about

Always kind of blows my mind to think Tommy DeVito was born in 1928! Nick Massi, who'd left the band by the time of this album, was born in 1927!
