That is a great compilation, with an even greater backstory. One of the all-time rock gadflys, Earl McGrath. Hagan's book on Jann Wenner is also a worthy read.

Still haven't listened to that whole comp. Mostly focused on David Johansen for whatever reason.
So many great tracks, Blood Brothers Six probably my favorite, but a lot of Detroit stuff that appeals to the ex-pat in me (Shadow with Dave Gilbert on vocals, who later fronted also-rans The Rockets) and a pre-house Norma Jean Bell. And both Terry Allen tracks, too. Really love the sheer range of styles.
