something seems wrong here

Why, because Kurt's thoughts are now prime toilet-reading and his image is someone's digital puppet? Is it possible to get too precious about this? (Just asking)

I think the way it's been edited so that it sometimes seems like Cobain is singing the song is disingenuous. But as far as morality goes, I think the Journals are far worse grave-robbing than post-production/humous lip-synching.
But he kinda gave up his prerogative to decide how his image is used when he took his head off.

what I said on another thread:
Pearl Jam/Nirvana releases

(I like the song more now than I did then)

it's all Kurt all the time! maybe THIS angle from THIS footage of THAT face will reveal something new (like the magic photo analysis machine in Bladerunner)... but it just clobbers you inna ESPN snowboard style, no class

the video did remind me that part of the reason he's considered a genius is that he was damn cute for a pissy boy.

One of my friends was sitting down to eat dinner last night and we had MTV on in the background. The song, which he hadn't heard yet, started up, and he looked at me puzzled. "This is a Hole song! Or at least, I thought it was..."

Anyways, further investigation into the matter with Kazaa revealed that, yes, Hole played this years ago on MTV Unplugged or a similar program. Funny thing is, now I like her version a lot more...

Yes, there's something wrong.

The song is shit, and the video is a joke.

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

it could've been a lot worse. at least they used actual film of him; i wouldn't have been the least bit shocked if instead they'd used computer animation - or worse - claymation. seriously, how awful would that be? - some semi-convincing computer generated cobain lip sinking with the lone tear rolling down his cheek.

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 19:35 (twenty-two years ago)

How about a lil-kids-as-Nirvana deal like that Spike Jonze-directed Notorious BIG video? Would have kind of killed the mood of the song though. I must admit that my enjoyment of their music/hatred of the "genius" cult has me split on whether I'd prefer reverence or not. The video is thrashy enough that I enjoy it. They're sold as a rock band rather than as poets of the generation or something.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 19:40 (twenty-two years ago)

computer animation - or worse - claymation

Naw, that'd be rad, like that one Tupac video.

hstencil, Tuesday, 10 December 2002 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah dyson! Like that one pac video where it's all cartoon, and there's all this jesus imagery, and if I'm remembering right he, like, literally flies to heaven at the end!? It reminded me of the video for Karma Police, only COMPLETELY earnest, sort've like a latin-american shrine for the dead (actually, more like a ghetto t-shirt with a picrture of your cousin who got shot silk-screened onto it), only in motion.

Dan I., Tuesday, 10 December 2002 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh man, stencil beat me to it.

Dan I., Tuesday, 10 December 2002 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

that Tupac video is hard to stomach

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not marmite.

hstencil, Tuesday, 10 December 2002 22:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Something wrong? Shit people... it's just some outtake with a montage video. What'd you expect?

maria b (maria b), Thursday, 12 December 2002 00:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I think he was unavailable to do much else.

Bruce Urquhart (Bruce Urquhart), Thursday, 12 December 2002 03:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh ho ho! Just wait until the new computer animation technology allows them to make a video where Cobain, Shakur and Biggie all lipsync the same song together. Probably in a Gap or Pepsi ad.

Lord Custos Omega (Lord Custos Omega), Friday, 13 December 2002 05:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Have you seen the Fat Joe video where he's computer animated? It's really a BET rotation thing...

jm (jtm), Friday, 13 December 2002 06:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Or is it Big Pun? You know, the dead fucker...

jm (jtm), Friday, 13 December 2002 06:54 (twenty-two years ago)

That would be the latter.
