come to my garden has "les fleurs," but perfect angel has "reasons," which is the best song of all-time

"Les Fleurs" is so good! I have listened to "Reasons" only once, about ten minutes ago.

So yeah I'm coming into this as a very new fan. A friend got me into Adventures and I've been slowly listening to the others —I gave us a bunch of time because I've yet to hear the last three! — and she's becoming a personal favourite. My previous impression was very much reduced to appreciating her vocal range, but now I'm more into the genre fusion and the general mood of sunshiney hippie soul sensuality, the best songs have a distinct scent of incense (in a good way lol)

"Reasons" is amazing, some of my favorite guitar sounds on a Wonder production. And what a vocal -- I can see her, arm akimbo.

boners for bombs (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 24 April 2026 15:59 (two weeks ago)

ok lol I didn't even realize Wonder coproduced Perfect Angel. She seems distinctly underrated/overlooked (possibly now being corrected? a not-super-deep-on-music-history friend knew who she was thanks to Maya Rudolph) in light of facts like that

norman-rockwell.jpg: "Lovin' You" is a good song

lol at me: "Our Lives" just started and couldn't be more immediately recognizable as Stevie

"les fleurs" is mandated by law to be in every movie ever, which might be making her profile rise a bit

Adventures in Paradise

The Quaker Gurvitz Army (President Keyes), Friday, 24 April 2026 16:13 (two weeks ago)

yeah you know what's rad is "When It Comes Down To It"

rob, Friday, 24 April 2026 16:17 (two weeks ago)

"Our Lives" has that astonishing moment when Ripperton harmonizes with Wonder's harmonica and she sounds like a keyboard.

ha I'll have to relisten with that in mind!

I actually forgot how psychedelic "Minnie's Lament" is, I might end up voting for Adventures too

oof cloudflare ate a post I wrote about Stay in Love. oh well the gist of it was that it's good, not as good as the three preceding albums, but I especially like when it ventures into funk workout territory and there is a ton of great vocal arranging on basically every track

I might like Minnie even more than SiL. the lushness is turned down in favour of a kind of rubbery disco-adjacent jazz-funk. or just disco, like on this party jam which rules:

Her first three albums are all absolutely perfect, but Come To My Garden is probably my favourite album of the 70s at this point so it has to be that. Kind of agree with voodoo chili about Reasons being the best song ever though.

It's cool to see her popularity is rising these days. Seems like she's being name checked more than ever. Jessie Ware has obviously been one of her most vocal supporters in the last few years. I've seen people talk about her on those What's In Your Back Amoeba videos a couple of times as well (just watched the Tennis one the other day). Nice high scores on Rate Your Music too. She seemed so underrated at one point. Maybe she still is, but things are changing. Syreeta needs this kind of attention next.

Perfect Angel has Stevie's fingerprints all over it, so that one remains my favorite.
