Is it responsible for the proliferation of subpar roots influenced music all in the name of alt.country or am I missing the point of all the campus radio station hippies using it like Playboy?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

And I am refering to the Mag not the album.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

You mean reading it for the articles?

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

or using it like playboy i.e. for wankery?

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

i have only read a few articles (haha). the magazine seemed like a grumpy old man. every article had one mention of how popular music has strayed from its roots. where do these roots begin? at one point, every style of music was new. what, exactly, is the year they believe music died?

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 20:44 (twenty-two years ago)

and did the chevy make it to the levy that fateful afternoon?

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 20:50 (twenty-two years ago)

or using it like playboy i.e. for wankery?

Neko Case nudie fotos?

hstencil, Tuesday, 10 December 2002 20:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't we wish.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Find me examples of this "every article had one mention of how popular music has strayed from its roots" in the current issue. Cite page nos.
I think you're just being an ass. Should an alt.country mag be talking about Dirrty and Work It?
It's a niche mag for a niche that happens to be not so niche-y right now. That's all.
Like would you get upset with Modern Golfer magazine if they kept talking about how golf carts take the walking out the sport?

Horace Mann, Tuesday, 10 December 2002 20:55 (twenty-two years ago)

There are Neko Case nudie fotos on the web. Not that I've searched for 'em, but I've seen 'em.

*Ahem*

Seriously, I don't find her to be all that (haven't heard her music), but I guess some guys and gals think she's the beezkneez and like Donna Summer "hot stuff" and all.

hstencil, Tuesday, 10 December 2002 20:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never read No Depression, but Horace Mann is OTM.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I would think he's OTM but thats the defensive stance I was predicting before I posted the question.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

"It's a niche mag for a niche that happens to be not so niche-y right now" sums up my (admittedly ignorant) view of ND.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

How should it react to no longer being a niche?
You can just assume its a generic magazine in it position if you want.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 10 December 2002 22:15 (twenty-two years ago)

defensive satnce pt. 2:

you must be clairvoyant to predict an offensive missive would result in a defensive stance.
because alt-country isn't as "underground" as it never really was, does that mean ND is no good anymore?
Have you ever read Living Blues?
