"In The Stars"
― Lithium Just Madison (C. Grisso/McCain), Tuesday, 5 May 2026 19:57 (two months ago)
The album will reportedly primarily consist of leftover compositions from the band's last album, Hackney Diamonds.[10]
the least promising sentence in history. but i'm glad there's another album in them regardless.

The album will feature appearances by Paul McCartney, Robert Smith (The Cure), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Steve Winwood.
First of the two sounds good, second we'll likely hear at CVS.

Both these new songs are awful. Didn't Jagger used to be at least a competent lyricist? I guess that was before I was born, though.

From the Consequence FB:
Mick Jagger reveals how Robert Smith ended up on The Rolling Stones' new album: "I turned up one day to do my vocals in London and there's this bloke standing there with his back to me with his long gown on, and when he turned around he was covered in lipstick. "I've never met him before and I said, 'You are Robert Smith of The Cure.' And he said, he said, 'Yeah, we've never met.' And then I said, 'Well, while you're here then you'd better go and do something.' That's how collaborations work sometimes. Go out and sing the backing vocal."

The CGI Mick Jagger in the new video is... unsettling.

Also, what's the message here? That this is how many people it takes to make a Rolling Stones album in 2026?

The message seems to be: even when these guys looked young, they were kind of cringe.

I think the song is great, I'm easily pleased. Video is just whatever. Pretty impressive deaging if it's deaging; well done face-swapping if that's what it is. One wonders why though.

Pretty great song, agreed; video is weird, and why 600 guitarists, 50 drummers, 20 keyboards and not a single bass player?
― assert (matttkkkk), Sunday, 17 May 2026 05:06 (one month ago)
I like the Hawkins channel. He's smart and funny. I don't think he offers that much in that particular video, but he does at least introduce a couple of troubling concepts re: AI. I know that Watt hack co-wrote a few songs on the last album, I wonder if he had a hand in this one, too? Because I could totally imagine this slick dork of a producer using AI to massage a Stones song (it's a pretty good song) into shape. I do agree with Hawkins, too, that using AI to prettify the Stones - and especially Keith - totally misses the point. It would have been great had they de-aged the band but still left them torn and frayed rather than shiny and out of the box new.
― Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 17 May 2026 13:46 (one month ago)
Pat Finnerty had an Andrew Watt rant the other night, described him as rock's Ponce de Leon, attracting every one of these acts in search of the fountain of youth. Stones, Macca, Pearl Jam, Michael Stipe ...
― Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 17 May 2026 17:12 (one month ago)
Yeah, it's funny how the producers these guys use to make themselves feel young and hip and vital โ Don Was, Brendan O'Brien โ age out, but the artists themselves never do...

As I said on Bluesky a couple of weeks ago, StonesCorp is pushing this album REALLY hard. Two music videos, a "visualizer," lyric videos, behind-the-scenes footage, a podcast... it's starting to feel like a final sprint (for them, obviously, but also for their version of rock stardom).

― Clever Message Board User Name (Raymond Cummings), Saturday, 11 July 2026 22:53 (three days ago)
Took this on a long walk just as I did the Madonna album a week ago (haven't listened to a full album by either since the CD age). And just as the Madonna album has a sense of place (the nightclub), this one has the feel of a small club. The band's clearly not afraid of being what could be either traditional or dumb, rhyming "money" with "honey" and "know my name" with "crying shame." But somehow we're now far enough away from the 80s/90s yuppie blues that this sounds true to itself. And these tempos: thinking how these songs aren't slowing down or mellowing out in the way that Robert Plant and Paul Simon and others have figured out how to do after 75 years old.

I can't explain how this album is better than Hackney Diamonds.
― boners for bombs (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 12 July 2026 01:33 (two days ago)
I haven't listened to it yet, and I may have the order of events off, but could there be anything to the rhythm section of Jordan and Jones, now road tested as well, being even more comfortable in their tandem role? Then again, those two are such total pros I'm not sure all the time spent together would have made a big difference.
― Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 12 July 2026 02:35 (two days ago)
I'm not quite sure how to explain the leap in quality but I think in each way it relates to being more relaxed. HD was overproduced yet samey (the two acoustic blues tracks outside) yet carried with it a big sense of event simply because the first album in years, first since Charlie died etc. With that out their system they're finally reimmersing themselves with extra curricular ghosts (e.g. the Emotional Rescue falsetto funk redux of Jealous Lover), superior lyrics (if that was ever a concern), interesting contrast of covers (recent with Amy, early Stones BBC session uncovering with Chuck), meatier tempos as in Divine Intervention and Hit Me in the Head. Maybe the riffs and choruses just work better too idk (Covered in You has been in my head for days).
