Cool song, but I'm not sure I heard much of a bassline so much as the sort of murky pulse I recognize from, like, Wolfgang Voigt. Maybe I'd hear it better on headphones?

I probably should have said "bass sound" rather than bassline, but what I find so pleasurable about it is that it is a warm & humid mass of air bass sound like Voigt but also melodic (not complicatedly to be sure). Headphones recommended though yeah

also the way it serves as the bedrock for all that lively percussion

so happy to see a thread for this album! I don't think i've ever heard anything quite like it, such an interesting amalgam of...east african jazz, R&B and dance music. Like "Cairo FM" alone is this fizzing confection of "If I Ruled the World (Imagine That)", Saharan disco and zebra katz's "Imma Read"

I woke up with Selah in my head, but yes the whole album is really great*

*except the final track, which I think I actually hate?

this is a very cool record. there are a few interpolations that i caught, need to listen again to remember what they are (i think "ultra light beam" was one lol)

ok so the other interpolation i caught was the "if i ruled the world" nod on "cairo fm," which is a fun song, very hype machine-era. reminds me of santigold.

Fantastic album

I have now listened to this three times and am going to be the one who says the music is wonderful but the English lyrics are actually so atrocious that I have a really hard time liking it entirely. I also am surprised that MIA hasn’t been mentioned on this thread, as far as sonic lineages go.

Dunno if I come to music like this for the lyrics so much. That said i'm not lyrics guy

i can’t ignore them— honestly never understood the capacity to be able to do so.
