Alan Sparhawk - non-Low-bands & solo

I know more discussion of his solo stuff since Mimi's passing is elsewhere but probably we should either use a thread like this or a wholly separate one

sed Ned, so right, here we are.

I've been playing the Trampled by Turtles album a lot, and it's starting to blow me away. Rich, sad, warm, ghostly stuff. "Screaming Song" hurts so much I might need to edit it out of my digital version... I'm not in Alan's situation but of course someday might be, and hearing it makes me imagine it more vividly than my heart can handle. The opener and closer are my current favorites, but every song is impressive. And the sequencing is awesome, meandering through different moods like a mountain stream.

Between this and "White Roses, My God" (which, on ILM, has not received the love it deserves! -- too heavy a shadow from his old band, I guess), I have a new living artist whose releases I'll be hanging on. It's been a spell.

"White Roses..." is one of the hardest listens I've attempted, I really was allergic to it. I listened the hell to Solo Guitar (2006) tho, years ago, as much as any Low album

yet I admit I'm still susceptible to ILX's allure (flamboyant goon tie included), Friday, 5 June 2026 02:30 (two days ago)

Solo Guitar is amazing.

The Retribution Gospel Choir albums are also great, I'm particularly fond of the second one. I got to open for them on that tour in SF at the Hotel Utah, one of the best shows I ever played.

Wishing and hoping and praying he’ll record a reggae adjacent thing.

^ ohhh, that would rule.

Gotta spend some good time with Retribution Gospel Choir -- I tried the third record the other day, and it sounded pretty awesome.
