I think I heard Beverly Hills and never listened to another Weezer album afterwards, and no desire to. So last one I heard was Maladroit and i don't have the fondest memories of that.

Me three. I’ve sorta wanted the deluxe versions of the first two albums for the b-sides and whatnot but I’ve really played them into the ground, I know I wouldn’t spend much time with them. Still curious about how this thread will go.

It’s been a while since they’ve put out a new one. Are they still touring and doing their Weezer business?

i disagree in that the white album seems like a refinement of everything will be alright's initial righting of the ship. the latter is kind of all over the place, the former is focused and has their most dynamic and absorbing songwriting since pinkerton + really excellent guitar tones

I’ve heard nothing past “Beverly Hills” except the odd track that made news. My problem with the post-Pinkerton stuff that I’ve heard is that it sounds like song-writing exercises, as though he stopped writing about anything really personal. Does this change? Has he written songs about grownup concerns?

I’m not saying that writing songs about aging and having kids or whatever is the way to go, I’m just curious how their lyrics and ideas have grown over the years.

there's not really one answer to that. i do know that "king of the world" is directly about his relationship with his wife. there are some very silly inane lyrics on white album as well, and my favorite song on the album was the most spreadsheet derived ("summer elaine and drunk dori"). but i don't really long for rivers cuomo to write "personally," it only ever happened consistently on pinkerton and honestly uhhh pinkerton is gross. a great album but gross

"Surfwax America" feels personal in a way that "Island In The Sun" doesn't, and I have a hard time pinpointing why. I don't care if it's really personal, but the songs felt that way. Maybe that's just me following the conventional Weezer narrative.

it is not. Everything Will Be Alright In The End is better, imo, but at the very least it's worth listening to.

ewbaite is like, the sort of album you would expect them to have made a lot more of if they'd had a normal career trajectory and it was definitely their best work in nearly 20 years at that point but it doesn't really get beyond 'not bad', 'alright', etc.

I know the band designates 'em as full-lengths, but at just over 20 minutes each they did feel too EP-y for my purposes.

I've heard a fair few of these due to them coming in used at work. I was blown away by how appalling Raditude was, how much it was worth and just how quickly it sold when we listed in on Discogs. That one, Pacific Daydream, Death To False Metal and Make Believe are all just so unbelievably bad.

My vote goes to Everything Will Be Alright in the End. That one and The White Album are the only two I wanted to revisit in the slightest.

i hate that i think this is unfair to pacific daydream, it's well above the rest of those. it's mostly 'what if the white album was overproduced in a bland modern pop rock style', it's breezy and very tolerable by weezer standards!

Everything Will Be Alright in the End (2014) felt the most like the first 2 so gotta vote for it. closest I came to liking a Weezer album since Pinkerton

Just wanted to interject here that I finally heard a Weezer song I didn't like and that it's on Raditude.

The Black Album sounding fuckin' awesome, on the other hand.

I told my Weezer story before, when they opened up for Lush. Voting Green with Ric Ocasek producing iirc, but I only go the first four deep.

Green is a perfect pop album, don't care what anyone says. It transcends the often criticised simplicity, formulaic and supposedly impersonal nature of it all. It's Weezer showing the essence of their best in an uncomplicated nutshell. The chorus alone of 'Glorious Day' proves this. When they added a so-called 'proper' solo to 'Smile' live, it was never as good.
