This album was a lot of fun on first listen, not sure how long it will stick with me, but after being somewhat meh on some of the singles as singles, I'm finding the rush of the full project works super well. The baseline is dancehall (pvmic but I think it's true), though with a lot of dancepop and of course afrobeats mixed in too. Lots of great guests (Theodora, Tyla, Sarkodie).

BUKSHOT is a standout:

very cool production on ACCRA GIRLS:

I can't remember if I've heard Mavo before or not but I enjoy his stoned out of his mind mumble on PRETTY MAMI

listened to a little of this but then got distracted. Will dig in to whole album soon

I guess I'm the only one walking around thinking

I'M A FINE LADY-O
JUICY TOMÉTO

at all times

I don't know if you feel inclined to try it again curmudgeon, but I'd recommend skipping POPSTAR. it's not bad but it interrupts the momentum

it's been a great year for albums, and maybe it's just the late summer mood, but this is the only thing my ears want when I open my streaming app

haha how have you not posted this in the surf the riddim thread?? or did I miss it?

that's a fair point!

ooh "Backie" is great, digging this

yesss gleaming sci-fi bouyon, dog latin should check that one out

this album is pretty great, thank you

yea it's a really good transatlantic pop record, a la theodora or amaarae or other cool people

does "popstar xoxo" sample soulja boy's "kiss me thru the phone" or does it just take inspiration from the ringtone era in general?

the (bad and hated) pitchfork review said yes iirc
