In the midnight hour, she cried POLL, Poll, poll - Billy Idol - Rebel Yell poll

Bee OK, Thursday, 6 August 2026 03:33 (six days ago)

So with this big news today, what to do. I could postpone this or continue. Onwards I say.

I was all set up to do a group that was Pop. I was going to justify by being synth based but thought why would I. There is enough New Wave that hasn't been polled that i needed to stay pure. Then I was going to do a greatest hits for a female artist but have already and will instead be bumped to next and will do one album instead. Changed again because of the new features that are coming, excited. Needless to say I have changed my mind many, many times...

Bee OK, Thursday, 6 August 2026 03:37 (six days ago)

This is too hard for me. They are like my favorite band and I celebrate all eras.

But just going with my gut I choose Stay.

kurt schwitterz, Thursday, 6 August 2026 08:06 (six days ago)

Aaah, I now seem the typo Bee OK mentioned elsewhere. :)

Is it strange that I've only knowingly heard "Weird Science" and "Stay"?

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Thursday, 6 August 2026 09:13 (six days ago)

er, 'see' rather than 'seem'. lol, jesus...

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Thursday, 6 August 2026 09:15 (six days ago)

I liked them a lot for a year or two in high school. I think of them as a very adolescent band for that reason. Music for a specific type of nerdy teenager. They peaked artistically with Dead Man’s Party; Boi-Ngo and Dark At The End Of The Tunnel in particular were a chore to listen to. Gotta give this some thought.

wipes chooser (unperson), Thursday, 6 August 2026 12:28 (six days ago)

I don't honestly know a lot of Boingo. Just Only a Lad, Weird Science, and Dead Man's Party. I had one friend who moved to Maryland from Southern California (where they are understandably bigger) in high school, and she was a big Boingo fan but I never caught the bug. Maybe I'll give them a closer examination over the next few days. Also, Forbidden Zone keeps popping up in my Tubi recommendations, so I'll try to watch that as well.

peace, man, Thursday, 6 August 2026 12:36 (six days ago)

These guys were my favorite band for a couple of formative high school years, basically the years between Boi-ngo and Dark at the End of the Tunnel. So I know all the albums up to Boi-ngo in obsessive detail, including the Elfman solo album, but I can’t remember anything from the later albums. My first instinct is to vote for Nothing Bad Ever Happens.

o. nate, Thursday, 6 August 2026 14:44 (six days ago)

“Nothing Bad Ever Happens” is the first song by them I heard so that’s my vote

Whatwhawhawhaehawhahwawhawwww (DJP), Thursday, 6 August 2026 14:51 (six days ago)

write-in vote for "this is halloween"

mobb derp (voodoo chili), Thursday, 6 August 2026 14:57 (six days ago)

My deep cut pick would probably be Pictures of You.

o. nate, Thursday, 6 August 2026 15:00 (six days ago)

Isn't "This is Halloween" a solo song? My memory might be going however.

Bee OK, Thursday, 6 August 2026 21:45 (six days ago)

Being from Southern California there are certain bands you're supposed to love Sublime, Social Distortion, No Doubt and this band. I really don't like any of them. I do like or know to death a lot of the above songs so I do know enough to at least vote for one song.

Bee OK, Friday, 7 August 2026 23:12 (five days ago)

“Stay” is the one for me, that chorus sends me to the moon <3

werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 8 August 2026 01:13 (four days ago)

The "Stay" chorus is all-time, but makes me wish it had better verses, whereas "Not My Slave" has great verses and a meh chorus. Think I ended up going w "Stay".

mr.raffles, Saturday, 8 August 2026 01:36 (four days ago)

Not sure what it says about my feelings for the band, but of the singles I know, I'm probably going to go with "We Close Our Eyes," which is probably the most "not like the others" song listed.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

21. "We Close Our Eyes" Boi-ngo 1987
28. "Insanity" Boingo 1994

"Wait, we already used that one?"
"Technically, no, since it had a superfluous hyphen in a nonsensical place"
"Great - print 'em!"

Not quite Lowell George/Joe Walsh territory, but you really gonna go with that for 2 separate releases, Danno?

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

I got pretty disillusioned listening back to this. DE is a despicable human being. Songs like "Little Girls," "Nothing to Fear (But Fear Itself" and "Pain" are just creepy. This is why LA gets its bad reputation from junk like these lyrics. I didn’t finish listening to all of this, did get through the 80s and voted for "Only a Lad." I just couldn't advocate anymore after a certain point.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 11 August 2026 01:22 (yesterday)

Incredibly reasonable conclusion

mr.raffles, Tuesday, 11 August 2026 03:01 (yesterday)

This is not the first time you’ve tried to get away
