New thread for Alex Chilton c/d

Yes yes yes, there is another s+d Alex Chilton thread. But it's only tiny. It is my assertion that the man cannot write a bad song (except India Song), no matter how throwaway. He can murder other people's compositions though.

"...Flies On Sherbert" is my favourite great-album-that-I-keep-getting-a-copy-of-then_losing-and-getting-another-copy. What is the man doing these days? Is it true he has bodyguards to "protect" him from producers? Discuss.

the "india song" was written by jody stephens?

my favorite song = "tennis bum"... it doesn't get any better than that for lost era alex.

before this gets out of hand, i will attest that the original thread is indeed worthy and starting new threads (vs. reviving old ones) = DUD.

now that i think about it, it's actually andy hummel who wrote "india song" (but jody stephens sings andy's "way out west" on the live record).

I used to work with/for Alex through a label he was signed to in the mid-'90s (very, very long story). In any event, last I heard he was still living in New Orleans, playing the occasional gig with the reconstituted Big Star, and chain smoking to the point of utter absurdity. I haven't heard about any new recording projects; I imagine the licensing fees and royalties from the use of "In the Street" on That '70s Show has helped keep the wolves from the door and left him more time to practice guitar and smoke.
