I've always wondered - does the cigarette on the back of 'Sheik Yerbouti' offend ppl as much as the pistol on the cover of the 1st Foo Fighters album? After all, he DID die of cancer

dave q, Tuesday, 17 December 2002 10:07 (twenty-two years ago)

more goofy than non-pc, but what non-pc thread would be complete w/t 'em?

Oxes album OXXXES has pictures of drums-taking, sex and violence ont he vinyl version, and pictures of people protesting about the vinyl version on the CD version.

Callum (Callum), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

~~"I've always wondered - does the cigarette on the back of 'Sheik Yerbouti' offend ppl as much as the pistol on the cover of the 1st Foo Fighters album? After all, he DID die of cancer."~~~

Well, considering he died of PROSTATE cancer, I don't think it's that big a deal...

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 16:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Besides having a scantily clad gal on it, what's politically incorrect about that Sniffin' the Tears album cover?
the cover of the 'driver's seat' single is worse, as i recall

zebedee, Tuesday, 17 December 2002 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

"the pistol on the cover of the 1st Foo Fighters album?"

You mean the ray gun?

Who is offended by that? Martians?

Kurt used a *SHOTGUN*, let's remember.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Shotgun. That's what they told you eh? Like I'd ever use a shotgun...

Callum (Callum), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

"Oxes album OXXXES has pictures of drums-taking"

What's wrong with taking drums?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

"re: the killing joke album. I had the t-shirt of that album and would get stopped by people asking if I was a neo-nazi. v.depressing."

I too had that T-shirt (ten years before it was used for an album in fact) and I had a couple of encounters with supposed "christians".

I say "supposed" because there didn't seem to be an awful lot of evidence of them loving their neighbour or turning the other cheek or indeed hanging about in case anyone who was without sin wanted to cast a stone or two before them....

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Why would anyone worried about being safe at work click on this thread?

Curt (cgould), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

How the hell do I know? Maybe they haven't had their coffee yet. Anyway, in moderating those posts I'm just doing my job. Naked or offensive stuff needs to be clearly marked. End story.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

very very nsfw

ron paul revulvalution (Pillbox), Sunday, 31 January 2010 16:19 (fifteen years ago)

I might have said this before on here but I maintain that if that 'Lovedrive' sleeve was for, say, a Sparks album people would kiss its arse rather than hold it up as an example of hard rock misogyny

Dean GAPDY (DJ Mencap), Sunday, 31 January 2010 18:45 (fifteen years ago)

There's nothing particularly wrong with Love Drive and Animal Magnetism is too risible to be offensive.

A German colleague insists the Virgin Killers sleeve wasn't that big a deal at home and the girl in question (one of the band's daughters?) has a print framed and hanging in her living room.

The most amazing thing is, according to press legend at least, the sleeve design came in direct response to suggestions in the rock press that they were gay.

"I've got an idea. This'll show 'em."

You can't include metal in this. It's so hard to dream up new ways to offend people. I remember getting sent a CD with Christ on the cross on the front except he had a syringe in his arm and a vagina.

Even my pretty large supplies of patience were tested by XXXManiak's Harvesting The Cunt Nectar.

Convicted paedophile Jonathan King's Earth To King Reign In Blood is so try hard it's hilarious on the other hand.

Likewise there's still something too wholesome looking about Walter Egan for his multiple statutory rape suggesting Fundamental Roll to be bothersome.
