What *should* be your country's national anthem?

After reading the "Planets" thread.

What would make an appropriate national anthem for your country?
And why?

(Serious classical answers and stoopid garage punk equally accepted.)

I mean this is one of the greatest political lyrics of all time, no way could it be in the national anthem!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I have always insisted that if I ever had my own country, Booker T and the MGs' "Time Is Tight" would be my national anthem. So stately, yet so soulful. Guess that'll have to do for my answer here.

(I guess national anthems have to have words, though, don't they?)

Although I don't particularly find Andrew WK's music appealing at all, I could totally imagine it blaring out over speakers at the beginning of baseball games, presidential inaugurations, etc.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

nickalicious, would that really be any different from Lenny Kravitz blasting outta speakers at the beginning of baseball games, presidential inaugurations, etc. ?

"Fight the Power" + "Dancing Queen" + theme from Shaft + "Blitzkrieg Bop".
Merge that into a techno-latin medley and you have something 3000x bettah than that Francis Scott Key piece of steaming doglink.
