Seriously, if only for a moment, I keep hearing about these "4 disciplines" and I've got ask, who made up this rule? What is the primary or even secondary source on this? Is it KRS-One? Harry Allen? Some white kid in Iowa who goes by the handle CoolHerk42?
Is there a sanctioning body for hip hop, and if so, how did Nelly get in?

I think the four elements refers to the four things that make up hip-hop culture, rather than "this is hip hop, nothing else is". Four things that are widely done within hip-hop that aren't done in other cultures/genres. God knows why beatboxing isn't in there.
