Pitchfork rated their debut album 2.9 and their second one 7.0. So 'Five Hundred Boy Piano' should get 11.1, right?

to make up for the major screw up on the first two?

what do they sound like?? is there a This Heat influence? vocals, no vocals, arty-farty or poppy?

there's a cd in the store that i always pick up (because i've heard kids on ILX talking about it) but put it back because i don't have enough info.

if there is a this heat influence, it's in their absolute resolve to not do anything in a correct musical fashion in any consistent way. vtb kind of sounds like every euro/UK art/prog/kraut/rock style all rolled up into a mutant, surrealist ball; steven stapleton putting out an album or two of theirs should clue you in as to their sound. key references: HNAS, NWW, af ursin, damenbart, some say bablicon.

i didn't much care for "500 boy piano," but i seem to be in the minority on that - my personal favorite is the 12" (yak folks y'are) on pickled egg, which has some absolutely wonderful cod-robert wyatt vocals on it.

website. i should point out that the available downloads are much calmer than their early albums.

i just listened to "yak folks" again and note that one of the songs sounds like a wobbly cover of this heat's "not drowning". for what it's worth.

downloaded those tracks last night and, like you said, they were fairly uneventful. but reading about them made me more interested. i was afraid they were going to be just another 'indie/post-rock band'

I remember liking The One Burned Ma and Classic Erasmus Fusion when I was into free folk
