have to say, it's not much of a contest, kinda like stax vs. back beat. salsoul, i think, is both more influential AND more pleasurable. there's a great comp, salsoul classics: two discs with a wonderfully tacky cover and, especially, back cover. last i heard of vince montana, he was working with masters at work, playing vibes on their fabulous cover of "runaway."
