Hopefully, there's something appropriate about the song and sports in general, but that isn't necessary.

Or, since hockey games (and the fans during hockey games) are so damn violent, maybe some Anal Cunt. Or scenes from the G.G. Allin movie, Hated in the Nation on the DiamondVision.
Uh...something loud with a lot of bass. It would disorient the players if handled right.

I would like to see more televised chess games, with the pre- requisite 'Song 2' blaring every couple of minutes.

The French version of "Hockey Night in Canada", the hockey tv show, most likely has a cool guy doing the sound editing, as from nowhere, the songs "Disintegration"/"Fascination Street" by the Cure and "Never Let Me Down Again" by DM can be heard as background music.
As for the question itself, I dont know why but I think "Juicy Juicy Juice" by the Trux would just drive the crowd crazy. Or maybe not.

During the mid-90s madness that was the Mike Walker period, "Z-Cars" was ditched, first for some chart hit called "Are (U/You) Ready For (D/Th)is?" (or something), then for "Fanfare For The Common Man". Joe Royle brought it back.
As for alternatives... erm, Amon Tobin's "Golfer vrs Boxer" springs to mind as being ideal for those events where golfers compete against boxers. "Superstars" with Ron Pickering, f'instance.

"Rappin' Rodney"- / "Rappin' Duke"- / "Rappin' Ronnie Reagan"-esque novelty hip-hop track, "The Super Bowl Shuffle" (thanks, Google) recorded by American football team the Chicago Bears in 1985 is sort of the protoypical one, and still the only one of note I can recall, but it isn't nearly the practice that it is in the UK.
