In the Netherlands couples (gay or straight now) can choose a piece of music to be played as they enter the hall for the ceremony. As this applies to myself shortly I was wondering, given the depth and range of tastes on this group, what some of you would use/have used?

Whilst its tempting to plump for something noisy and in-your-face this would probably be a bit self-indulgent. I mused on Aphex Twins 'Heliosphan' (SAW 85-92) for a while but we'll probably opt for Eno's 'Deep Blue Day'.

We (David and I) used Hallejauh by Leonard Cohen, John Coltranes A Love Supreme, Magnetic Fields experimental love song and Nina Simones Never seems i am tired of loving you. My mother was upset .

I too am getting hitched soon (late July), and the wife-to-be & I have really been stumped over the "right" wedding song. Some options that were vetoed for one reason or another:

- Lou Reed's "Perfect Day" - Nixed due to the somewhat sinister "You're Going to Reap Just What You So" lyric.

- Nancy Sinatra's "You Only Live Twice" - My first choice for no other reason than that it's a cool Bond theme, but a little too dour in spots, alas.

- Massive Attack's "Protection" - Great song, but a bit too melancholly & slow. Likewise to Jeff Buckley's "Everybody Here Wants You" (which in itself closely resembles "Protection," if you put you ears to it).

- The Stranglers' "Golden Brown" - Lovely tune...too bad it's actually about heroin.

The fiancee is really rallying hard for "Danke Schoen" by Wayne Newton, but that's a bit too "Ferris Bueller" for my taste.

My friend's wedding last week: Imperial Death March (Darth Vader's theme) My wedding: "With Whom to Dance" Magnetic Fields

i think all weddings should be as much like ferris bueller as is humanly possible. playing the imperial march is something the comic book guy would do.

Yeah, but it's still pretty funny. How about the Wedding March as played by Brian May of Queen from the "Flash Gordon" soundtrack?

Bizarrely, a similar question has already been asked twice before.

Apologies for repeating a thread (hadn't seen either). Suppose the difference is we've got to enter a room to something, rather than start dancing. Did like the Gang of Four-'Anthrax' suggestion, similarly McCarthy's 'Boy meets Girl, so what' might by droll.

Eminem's Kim is probably out of the question, so...how about Frank Bennet's version of With or Without You?

one year passes...
I got married last weekend. I selected Bill Evans' "Peace Piece" for the wedding party's walk to the alter and then, fulfilling a dream I've had for about 8 years, my bride walked down the aisle to John Coltrane's "Welcome." Totally overwhelming and great. Like, maybe the greatest single moment of my life. "Welcome" should be the new wedding march, I'm telling you.

So anyway -- how about y'all? This is an old question, but what do you want to hear during the wedding ceremony (we have another thread somewhere about the reception -- look it up!)

We used "Northern Sky" - Nick Drake as our dance. Closed the night with "I'm Your Puppet" - James and Bobby Purify

I got married last weekend.

You need to tell us these things! Congratulations and then some. :-) Seriously, if there was another thread about it, I missed it.

This is ILX's year for marriage, I think -- I can name at least four off the top of my head now (no, wait, five).

Top Gun Anthem by Harold Faltermeyer gets my vote. Just the right synth/pomp mix.

That's a beautiful image, thinking of that epic guitar lead as someone walks down the aisle...& thanks for the kind words Ned.

I think the beginning of Mohammed Abdel Wahab's song for Oum Kalthoum "Inta Omry" ("My life"--as in you are my life) would make a good wedding processional, and the lyrical theme is appropriate enough. You would need to add an explanation in the bulletin, however.

"Her Eyes Are A Blue Million Miles" - Captain Beefheart

NB: best check to make sure your intended has blue eyes before suggesting this one 'though, or you might just find "Nowadays A Woman's Gotta Hit A Man"!

I got married last weekend.

Congrats, Mark! Hooray! That Coltrane song sounds perfect.

I actually got married the month before that. It was an intimate garden ceremony behind a jazz/champagne club which also served as the setting for the reception. (no points to other Chicagoans for sorting that out!) There were about 40 or so people there and no traditional processional, just the two of us walking out into the sunlight to "Asleep and Dreaming" by the Magnetic Fields.
