You've got the remsters for sure, but if you're trying to eat anything else, I don't know if its tobacco or a maple leaf.

Dave, Monday, 4 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

and the b52s...best ass-jiggling bouffant thrashing hipsters I've evr danced with my mum to.

Bad town for hair. Mike Mills. What the dillywack is up with him? For nigh on two decades he sports the pudding bowl from Hell's kitchen cut. And then... then... all of a sudden, some wavy blonde perm thing. Just out of the blue. The man's out of control!

AP, Tuesday, 5 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

NO shit AP! AND the glasses a nd teeth. He is one unique lookin man. I lik e his voice though, and always liked his bass playing.

Mike Hanley, Tuesday, 5 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Seeing Mike Mills new hair for the first time is the reason Peter Buck went crazy apeman on that jet plane.

Steven James, Tuesday, 5 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It seems like a good town, you've got Of Montreal and stuff like that (which I'm not going into, as we've been there, done that).

The Glands are the best band to come from Athens, Ga since REM circa '83. In fact, they may be the best pop band in the USoA right now. That's my take. If you don't know, you'd better axe.

Tim Baier, Tuesday, 5 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

in case anyone was wondering (and in hopes of getting fewer REM responses, sorry), the reason i asked was that i'm moving there in a month and i'm reasonably familiar with the town already, but i'm sure there's more i have to learn. anyone live/has lived there?

one year passes...
Athens, Ga is a great town for music. I've lived here all my life and there is always something great going on. If you are a big fan of music, you must come down here to see AthFest. It's a big festival downtown with music and art. Great time.

this bum was like 'athfest?? it SUCKS... ignorant people...' hey j blount you know this bum dude 'big guy'?? he looks like a crazy cavemen and hangs with the baseball cap/backpack dude and this ugly long faced old hag. anyway man fuck athfest but yo layla what up girl you like red lobster??

s trife (simon_tr), Thursday, 10 October 2002 04:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Athfest is a scam Jared Bailey came up with (kinda like Flagpole, and in better times the 40 Watt), I don't go to it although I'm always quasi-tempted to go see Japancakes set since, like literally everybody in Athens, I know someone in Japancakes (Boss Bailey knows someone in Japancakes), but never actually do it. I did go see 8-track Gorilla last year (?) because I wanted to see how the Atlantan's would take it, and the Uninsured Circus was before and my friend Klon was ringmaster. I'm not familiar with 'big guy' (and 'looks like a crazy caveman' is hardly specific enough when talking about downtown bums) but I think I do know the ugly long faced old hag, she used to come into Rocky's alot. One of my favorite things about Athens is walking into the Grill around 7 am for some grits and sausage and seeing the downtown bums huddled around a pitcher of beer.

Something I'm sure you'll know: what's the name of the guy who plays Nelly songs on acoustic guitar in front of Heery's?

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 10 October 2002 16:23 (twenty-three years ago)

simon was just telling me about that guy the other night!!

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 10 October 2002 16:25 (twenty-three years ago)

i talked to him the other night, his name was joe i think?? he was saying how extra hard he works on the shit, like writing all the notes down or whatever, and hes really astonishing, ive seen him three times now, last time he did rappers delight which ive never seen him do, and i told him to learn like i love you!! anyway blount i didnt know you knew klon w, god what a pathetically small world athens is

s trife (simon_tr), Thursday, 10 October 2002 16:52 (twenty-three years ago)

also 'big guy' is recognizable because he calls everyone, and himself, 'big guy'

s trife (simon_tr), Thursday, 10 October 2002 16:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Athens is a pathetically small world (see the Ballard Lesemann chronicle in this week's Village Voice for proof positive of that). "Like I Love You" seems almost designed to be performed by that guy, maybe he could get 'Billie Jean' the Michael Jackson impersonator (who works at Bel-Jean I think) to do the vocals.

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 10 October 2002 17:43 (twenty-three years ago)

you mean jerome?? 'you can call me... michael jackson...my name is...jerome..'?? i havent seen him at months, no way he works at bel jean!! although hmm jazzy jay does work with my roommate at bells now :-O

s trife (simon_tr), Thursday, 10 October 2002 18:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Whichever one performs at Boneshakers (although I'm pretty sure I'm thinking of a girl). The reason I said Bel-Jean is that seemingly everyone works there now. Which Bells? The eastside one that smells or the westside one with the cute hispanic girls (last time I went in at least, about four years ago)?
