I dont like either group. THere was a good HIgh Llamas album made there though.

Ba-a-a-ad town for music.

Also: That Damn Swing Band That Was In Swingers, a.k.a. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy

Also: Nerfherder (who were cool till their second album and who now open for the Bloodhound Gang)

Also: Many many hardcore punk bands. Who are good, except for their music.

What about Dishwalla and Primitive Radio Gods!?

JM, Tuesday, 5 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Right. Dishwalla = -1. PRG +0.5.

It still sucks.

one year passes...
I'm thankful my band didn't play much there. It's a nice town, if you can afford it! $1500 a month for a SMALL one bedroom apartment? Yeah...and my amp goes to eleven.
Dishwalla....or, Dishwater, as some used to call them...OK...well, I used to work with JR, the lead singer...what a EGOMANIAC! First of all, I don't like the band's style (he's a little too old for the haircut and sideburns he has) and he thinks he's God's gift to women. What a joke! They suck...donkeys.
Ugly Kid Joe...Who? What? Where? enough said.
Big Bad Voodoo...yeah, that craze lasted, didn't it?
Toad the Wet Socket...Never really lasted either...I remember I kicked the peg-legged Drummer out of my store just because they're music sucked!

Unless you play the blues, you might be able to get a gig in a bar on Sunday afternoon. Other than that, S.B. sucks for new music.

Big Bad VD (what i call them) are not from Santa Barbara but about 30 minutes south in Ventura.

best Santa Barbara bands = Monoshock, Liquorball, Early Man Site, Cactopus (all formed in SB), Steve Garvey's Hair (devo cover band) and the jewish supremacist metal band = ZION ("gimme back my foreskin"). Sukia/DJ Me/DJ You and Sexy Death Soda are from nearby.

So are there enough people to have a Santa Barbara: FAP next year?

jm (jtm), Thursday, 9 January 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry, i lived near there for a year about 8 years ago.

go to the cajun kitchen for breakfast though.

the only thing coming out of SB is reggae and hippie music!!! not a bad thing!!

Driving through the middle of Santa Barbara county recently, it almost kinda hit me why the High Llamas did name their albums "Santa Barbara" and "Hawaii". The artwork on "Hawaii", a slope of neatly stumped trees was exactly what I saw when I was driving through there. Does this mean that you'd see a lot of well-off rastafarian skater dudes in Honolulu when driving through there?...

Maybe.

either way, once I can figure out what/where "Gideon Gaye" is.. maybe this will all make sense as this triage of road trip records.. or something.

(oh, and I remember there being a lot of hardcore/emo bands from Goleta, but I could be wrong)

You're not talking about Foxy Roxy, right? Coz I don't recall...

jm (jtm), Thursday, 9 January 2003 23:03 (twenty-two years ago)

No. Foxy Roxy was the German teacher and she dated somebody from Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.

This was iforget who but I have the demo tape.

Has anyone heard of Agent 94, and how to get a cd or even tape. They're from S.B. and were around in the early 90's.....
