Seriously, I couldn't feel more strongly about music right now.

i wonder how much plays was hampered by its concept. ehlers tlaked a lot about "referencing" over sampling but i didnt feel the tracks were especially evocative of their muses either... but then would i have bothered if it was called "composition xp9dhjdj"?
that said morningstar plays cassavetes would go something like some monotone guy going "look at me look at me blah blah blah as i crush life with my tyranny"

i have an mp3 labelled 'ehlers plays californication' somewhere but i've no clue if its real. it's nothing i couldn't do with soundforge and some reverb plugins to be honest

i didn't realise the strings on "..cassavetes" were from the beatles until tonight.

Are you serious!?
From where, specifically?
― Their time's limited, hard rocks, too (mehlt), Saturday, 22 November 2008 00:56 (seventeen years ago)
It's a loop of a section from the intro to "Goodnight", very obvious in fact, not processed or anything. I would love to know what he does with it, exactly. One of the really fascinating things about that track is that you can't tell for sure if it's changing at all through most of it.
― Mark, Saturday, 22 November 2008 01:12 (seventeen years ago)
Well I've never really known much anything about the Beatles so. .
Downloaded and am listening to Endless house after upthread recommendation. Lovely.

It's too pretty to be heartbreaking, and nowhere near the level of emotional poignancy of Cassavetes, but damn, I've be much more than content to listen to Endless House pretty much on repeat. I could listen to stuff like this all my life (and it serves as a nice break from the endless house I've been listening to, otherwise ;). Thanks for the tip!

the "heroin" album with stephan mathieu is really nice too.. i think one of the tracks samples sigur ros but i could be wrong.

― s1ocki, Sunday, 23 November 2008 06:57 (seventeen years ago)
the beatles thing sort of crushes my dream of using it as soundtrack music tho :(
― s1ocki, Sunday, 23 November 2008 06:58 (seventeen years ago)
Loving the whole 'Plays' compilation despite not recognising any of the references. Glorious.

Cornelius Cardew's The Great Learning is very much worth hearing! (Eno is one of the voices on the original recording, IIRC, though I doubt you could make him out in the mass.)
― eatandoph (Neue Jesse Schule), Sunday, 30 September 2018 16:20 (seven years ago)
Ta, will look into it.
For clarity I was familiar with Ayler & Cassavetes & Johnson themselves, just can't hear it in the music.
Cardnew & Fichte are blindspots though.

I, er, Spotified "Goodnight" and "...Cassavetes 2" back to back two days ago, killing time at my mother's house. She was out of the room for some ten minutes but was then all "Is it still going? Wait, did The White Album have a locked groove as well?"

what happened to him?
― FRE SHA VAC ADO (jed_), Monday, 1 October 2018 09:50 (seven years ago)
He's recording under the name Ferdinand Fehlers now, see this ep from 2017
― lbi's life of limitless european glamour (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 1 October 2018 12:16 (seven years ago)
oh great, thanks LBI.
― FRE SHA VAC ADO (jed_), Monday, 1 October 2018 14:57 (seven years ago)
That Ferdinand Fehlers ep seems to be from 2005, according to discogs (and spotify). It is gorgeous but very much Farben-like from around that time. I love Farben from that period so I'm not complaining.
― FRE SHA VAC ADO (jed_), Monday, 1 October 2018 22:45 (seven years ago)
My mistake! I've only stumbled across the ep doing a similar 'where is he now' search earlier this year. I guess that question now remains unanswered.
The Farben stuff is lovely, I agree.
