I think their database is far too small as of yet. But it might eventually develop into something like Gigaspiral.
Any commentary?

I put in Momus, Current 93, Tom Waits and out came : "Death in June"

Well ... I see why.

Like a lot of these collaborative filtering things, it'll probably be OK at mapping you from X to other stuff in generally accepted genre Y, that most people put X in ... but it won't capture the difficult, subtle categories of real personal taste.

Do you think its that the program only knows...what...300 bands?

I put in the Residents, Husker Du, and Television and got Mercedes Soca. Go figure.

Next I got:

Mike Westbrook
Michael Gibbs
God Bullies

Then after that it goes on to the Minutemen, Fear, Cop Shoot Cop, Big Boys....

After that, I tried putting in some fake bands (Edsiwd, Fisawhe, and Leesw) to see what I would get.

1: Leather Un (No clue. Leather Nun, maybe?)
2: Bal-Sagoth
3: The Soundtracks Of Our Lives
4: Frames (The Frames?)
5: Dizzy Mizz Lizzy

So, we can conclude that gnoosic's AI engine goes nuts whenever it has nothing to work with.

Actually, I don't think we can conclude anything from this. Thank you for letting me waste your time.

"Welcome to Gnod's world of music...
Even if you don't know what you are looking for - gnod will find it.

Gnod is a self-adapting system that learns about the outer world by asking its visitors what they like and what they don't like. In this instance of gnod all is about music. Gnod is kind of a search engine for music you don't know about. It will ask you what music you like and then think about what you might like too. When I set gnod online its database was completely empty. Now it contains thousands of bands and quite some knowledge about who likes what. And gnod learns more every day. Enjoy :o)"
