Peter Gabriel: "Big Time" VS "Sledgehammer"

I gotta go with "Big Time", more groovy, even though "Sledgehammer" is one of the best I'll-fuck-the-shit-out-of-you euphorism songs I've ever heard.

Euphemism? Or is euphorism a really really exciting euphemism?

Amateurist (amateurist), Saturday, 4 January 2003 05:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Both quite good, but "Sledgehammer" is simply a better tune.

Amateurist,
Just to clear things up for further reference, about 80% of the time I post shit here, I'm pissed drunk. Please forgive spelling errors. "euphorism" is the HelltimeDrunk spelling of "euphemism".

Sorry for any confusion. Belch.

I kind of like your neologism, though.

Amateurist (amateurist), Saturday, 4 January 2003 06:21 (twenty-three years ago)

sledgehammer all the way. something about the lyrics. and that video.

dyson (dyson), Saturday, 4 January 2003 06:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Sledgehammer. No question.

paul cox (paul cox), Saturday, 4 January 2003 07:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, Amateurist, I'm glad someone apprecciates it. It's alot better after I've gotten about 2 hours of drunk sleep, as my wife can testify too. Back when she worked the nightshift I got wasted until 5 one morning, went to sleep, she got home at 7, came in the room, and TURNED ON THE LIGHT off all things. I screamed at her to "Turn Off The Salt!!!"

How's that for fucking up language?

Helltime Producto (Pavlik), Saturday, 4 January 2003 08:29 (twenty-three years ago)

musically, i always preferred big time and thought sledgehammer was funk for non-rhythmic peoples

however, i can find it within my bones to wish to be many a woman's hammer of sledge

ps. i used to think the last line of big time was slick; now i think it's kinda corny

Also, that creepy flute intro to "Sledgehammer" (before the gameshowy glitzkrieg of parping, shiny saxophones breaks down the wall) is ace!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 4 January 2003 12:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Big Time all the way. Curse ye who thinken otherwiser.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Saturday, 4 January 2003 14:41 (twenty-three years ago)

on this thread, apparently, "euphorism" effortlessly rocks the socks offa "sledgehammer" as well as "big time"

Big Time

dleone (dleone), Saturday, 4 January 2003 15:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Also, the creepy flute intro to "Sledgehammer" is probably a Fairlight synthesizer. I'll always associate Gabriel w/ the Fairlight, that machine gave him the edge.

Mark (MarkR), Saturday, 4 January 2003 15:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh yeah, I always thought "Big Time" by far the worst song on that otherwise fine album. I'll take bumper cars (bumping) over it any day of the week.

Mark (MarkR), Saturday, 4 January 2003 15:28 (twenty-three years ago)

It's more fun to play on drums than Sledgehammer.

dleone (dleone), Saturday, 4 January 2003 15:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Big Time for me as well, by a nanoblip

In Your Eyes

William R Henderson (Cabin Essence), Saturday, 4 January 2003 16:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Heh, these two songs always ruined the flow of "So" for me, but I like them both on their own. "Sledgehammer" is the better tune of the two.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Saturday, 4 January 2003 17:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Stop splitting hairs! Both of them are better than 'Kiss That Frog', the most creepy song about oral sex ever.
