Sneering, occulty, post-punky ruminations on vikings by disgruntled Punks or a thanklessly proggy interpretation of Poe's creepy classic by arty musos with ill-advised facial hair.

I do like'em both, but I'll *ALWAYS* vote for the `Glers. Et vous?

answer: "The Raven" by the Yo-Yo's (Coral 1966). Based on the
Poe story. You ignorant ILM types. The Stranglers and The Alan Parsons Project. I don't think so.

No need to be an insufferably pompous jackass, Stuart.

Alex in NYC...and the Stranglers OWN your sorry ass! (vassifer), Saturday, 28 January 2006 12:50 (nineteen years ago)

Gee, that Parsons' track is taken from Edgar Allen Poe: Tales of Mystery & Imagination. D'ya think maybe it's based on Poe too? Hmmmmmmm.

i haven't heard the two songs you mention (showing my ignorance here), but there's another one which i love: "The Raven" by The Yo-Yo's. it's a cool dramatic rocker with a mildly eerie air. half the lyrics are lifted from the Poe poem.

a friend was complaining recently about how they had nothing to read and i suggested that they should try reading their Edgar Allen Poe book (from their dusty shelf of classic literature). basically, they said "No". they considered the idea pretentious, which is pretty unfair to old Poe, and, well, it's their loss.

maybe i'll search these other "Ravens" out actually...
