My thread is so lonely.

i heard this on the essential selection friday, ronan. it sounded good, a bit diabla-esque. didn't particularly *excite* me but i can imagine it would have sounded like the best thing evah to the me of a couple of years ago. still, on a big system @ 1am it'd prolly sound like the best thing evah all over again.

speaking of 'Diabla', assuming you mean the Funk D'Void track (which i kept thinking was by Slam for a bit) can one of you tell me the proper name for the version that accompanied the video when it was released. i keep thinking its called 'Bass Invader' because of the video as well...none of the mixes i downloaded (original mix, hacker mix, kevin saunderson mix) sounded the same

Yeah my problem with these things is I only hear them on a big system at 1am. Is the original any different? I heard the new Foremost Poets track the other night aswell but it really isn't great. I'm not a massive fan of Diabla to be honest. Not sure about the mixes.

can't help you there stevem. re. diabla - my mate thought it was just about the best record of 2001 but for me it's always been a bit meh, like most of soma's stuff actually. saunderson was doing it so much more funkily yrs ago. the agoria track is better than diabla, slower, more stately.

michael wells (michael w.), Monday, 6 January 2003 14:39 (twenty-three years ago)

have you heard his remix of "dirty"?

My friends are signed to Soma so obviously this will all change.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 6 January 2003 14:40 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, i heard the remix. typical saunderson innit? velocity funk and world of deep are the daddies of this sound.

michael wells (michael w.), Monday, 6 January 2003 14:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Is it being typical saunderson why there are so many techno records which sound like that? big deep basslines a la dave clarke's remix of coatnoise and stuff.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 6 January 2003 14:54 (twenty-three years ago)

you can hear it in d'n'b and ukg, too. saunderson's tronik house/ e-dancer sound (the BIG doomie b-line mainly) was perhaps the most seminal of all the detroit boys.
