What album DIDN'T you buy this weekend ?

We've all done it, spent ages in a record shop fondling the merchandise, getting our grubby paw prints all over the thing then walking out without out it.

We kind of really want it, but something always stops us.

So what did you NOT buy this w'end?
Why not?
Do you regret it?
Are you going to get it 'next time'?

mei (mei), Sunday, 5 January 2003 21:00 (twenty-three years ago)

it wasn't inna shop, it was an ordering list from which i didn't pick
Julee Cruise's The Art of Being A Girl
Trio Mocoto's Samba Rock
Friedman/Liebezeit's Secret Rhythms

(coz my wheelbarrow's not full of wonga, that's why!)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Sunday, 5 January 2003 21:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't buy the Lauryn Hill Unplugged DVD, but it's just 'cause I only had a twenty on me, and it was either that by itself or Beastie Boys' Hello Nasty and Ol' Dirty Bastard's Ni**a Please.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Sunday, 5 January 2003 21:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Almost bought Future Sound Of London Lifeforms for 7 euros, but didn't.

Siegbran (eofor), Sunday, 5 January 2003 22:11 (twenty-three years ago)

My last day in Germany on Friday spent a long time holding "14 Shots To The Dome" by LL Cool J and "Tical" by Method Man, but didn't buy them in the end because I didn't want to get out any more Euros.

Nick H, Sunday, 5 January 2003 22:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I could have not got The Player on VHS, but I did. :-P

naked as sin (naked as sin), Sunday, 5 January 2003 23:15 (twenty-three years ago)

not music of course, but about 35% on topic.

naked as sin (naked as sin), Sunday, 5 January 2003 23:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't buy the Justin Timberlake because I couldn't find it used.

Sean (Sean), Sunday, 5 January 2003 23:51 (twenty-three years ago)

i did not buy 808 State's 'Outpost Transmission' cos i finally found it on Slsk

stevem (blueski), Monday, 6 January 2003 02:03 (twenty-three years ago)

i didnt buy any of them

ron (ron), Monday, 6 January 2003 02:14 (twenty-three years ago)

If I lose the auction, I didn't buy Immersion In A 90 MPH World by Ordination of Aaron.

Ian Johnson (orion), Monday, 6 January 2003 03:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I was planning on buying No New York (the japanese import), which I've seen at Amoeba Music everytime I've been there for the last couple of months, but I've never had the money. When I finally was intent on purchasing, it was gone. I will forever be hitting myself on the head for this until I can I can it for the same price ($25).

T. Weiss (Timmy), Monday, 6 January 2003 07:14 (twenty-three years ago)

The Funky Cops soundtrack CD. Also Check Your Head. Next time? yes ... maybe.

Jeff W, Monday, 6 January 2003 12:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Not buying Lifeforms or Tical == missed opportunity.

phil jones (interstar), Monday, 6 January 2003 12:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I had Carpenters Gold in my hands but I didn't buy it. I want a Carpenters comp but I don't know if this is the best one and I decided I wasn't in the mood and had hardly played some of my other recent buys.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 6 January 2003 13:02 (twenty-three years ago)

My parents have Carpenters Gold. I have this earlier comp. which has virtually the same tracks on it:
http://www.geocities.com/stemayers/webpages/only.htm

You can't really go wrong with either.

Jeff W, Monday, 6 January 2003 13:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I actually handed over cash for Cabaret Voltaire - Original sound of Sheffield 83-87, but then changed my mind while I was still out and went back to the shop 2 hours later to swap it for....
Big Country - The Crossing.

Howls of derision, no doubt, but I got all sentimental about Stuart Adamson and thought fuck it.

James Ball (James Ball), Monday, 6 January 2003 16:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Browsing through Second Time Around in the University District yesterday afternoon, I came across a copy of OMD's "Junk Culture" for cheap. I've always liked "Locomotion," but put it back. I did end up buying "Oh No, It's Devo" for a few bucks.

mike a (mike a), Monday, 6 January 2003 18:02 (twenty-three years ago)

three months pass...
I didn't buy Rasputina's "Thanks For The Ether" because the price got too high on EBAY.

What have I missed?

mei (mei), Monday, 14 April 2003 18:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't buy the Led Zep 2CD best-of because I realized that it's really dumb to buy something you can hear on the radio or find for cheap in used bins.

hstencil, Monday, 14 April 2003 18:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Crude Sax Sothis, Algarnas Trädgard Delayed and the Hurley Blueberry Wine reish. 'cuz, unlike the stuff i did opt to buy, none of these should be too hard to find again. they'll wait for me. and i for them.

summerslastsound (summerslastsound), Monday, 14 April 2003 19:12 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't buy the new Swirlies record. They've jerked me around for so long I don't trust them when they say that this is the real actual followup to They Spent Their Wild Youthful Days....

Also, I didn't buy the new Yo La Tengo record because I downloaded an advance rip a couple months ago and I found it really disappointing.

Nick Mirov (nick), Monday, 14 April 2003 19:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't buy the new Firewater album, The Man on the Burning Tightrope because it's not out yet, but I did get a promo copy of it in the mail, so yay, hooray, huzzah! (it's fuckin' magnificent, by the way).

Also, I didn't buy The Unperverted Pantomime by Killing Joke....`cos it isn't out yet (but should be in stores this week!)

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 14 April 2003 19:27 (twenty-three years ago)

There were a couple of three-disc northern soul compilations that the local record shop just got in. I'm doing a l'il research on the box sets to make sure they're not some shoddy quick-buck sets.
Considering most of the store's clientele is more interested in the newest AFI and 50 Cent records, I think I have time to wait.
I also put a couple of Elvis Costello reissues on hold.
Also, came close to buying Cuff The Duke and the Hidden Cameras but held off. I've got some stuff on order that should be in this week.

Bruce Urquhart (Bruce Urquhart), Monday, 14 April 2003 20:49 (twenty-three years ago)

You can get Thanks for the Ether really cheap on spun.com – $8.98 brand new. Also their new covers EP, which is really great.

Fivvy (Fivvy), Monday, 14 April 2003 21:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I mean, Ether isn't out of print or anything. I don't know how much it's going for on eBay, but the high price is not due to short supply.

This is directed at mei, by the way.

Fivvy (Fivvy), Monday, 14 April 2003 21:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Interpol : Turn on the Bright Lights
The Strokes : This is It
The White Stripes : Elephant
Ok Go! : s/t

Jon Williams (ex machina), Monday, 14 April 2003 21:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I was really close to buying a lot of stuff. Closest to Wolf Eyes & Jan Jelinek.

Also, I'm really happy for Alex in NYC, and I think we should all be.

Adam A. (Keiko), Monday, 14 April 2003 21:22 (twenty-three years ago)

i was thinking about getting that four year old sloan live album all weekend but i was too lazy to leave the house.

brian badword (badwords), Monday, 14 April 2003 21:46 (twenty-three years ago)

i saw that Gang Starr album that was in Matthew Ingram's list but for some reason I didn't get it. Maybe I'll go back

Keith McD (Keith McD), Monday, 14 April 2003 22:58 (twenty-three years ago)

i didn't buy the new YLT either but probably will later this week

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 14 April 2003 22:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I bought Lifeforms a few weeks later for even less, so it was not that much of a missed opportunity, fortunately.

Siegbran (eofor), Monday, 14 April 2003 23:13 (twenty-three years ago)

new swirlies? yow, i don't suppose christina files is playing on it?

ron (ron), Monday, 14 April 2003 23:19 (twenty-three years ago)

no christina files but it is a real record, not like the yes girls nonsense, it's pretty groovy. only 7 songs and half were previously released but then i don't have any of those split singles or comps so it was all new to me. they are touring with the lilys(new album out march 2oth woo hoo!), but of course they are not heading anywhere near denver.

keith (keithmcl), Monday, 14 April 2003 23:40 (twenty-three years ago)

The Plaid "Remixes" album - why oh why! I keep meaning to download it cos i can't afford it and buy it at a later date, but i just can't find it let alone afford to buy it.

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 01:31 (twenty-three years ago)

As I said in the
what DID you buy thread, I almost bought a tall stack of used 3" CDs from the invalidObject series (very limited edition). The packaging really hits my design-sensibility G-spot. But I have neither the time nor the money to invest in a bunch of CDs that would get looked at more than listened to. No real regrets.

Also, I would have bought the new Manitoba, and the Soft Pink Truth full-length, but the shop didn't have them in.

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 03:09 (twenty-three years ago)

(pardon my linebreak)

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 03:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Ta Fivvy, but I live in the UK so $8.98 translates to too much hassle.
I've not looked for it in a shop here yet, but I have a no more than a tenner rule so I might be out of luck.

Dog Latin, I didn't buy the Plaid album this weekend either.
But that's okay, some wonderful person sent me it this morning for free! And it's brilliant so far.

Go on, buy it. You'll love it.

mei (mei), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 07:15 (twenty-three years ago)

that was kind of them mei. Who was that then?

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 12:12 (twenty-three years ago)

...Natacha Atlas & Marc Eagleton Project - bloody again! - had ordered it again, and again it wasn't delivered 8-(

likewise, a Chico Buarque rekkid from '01

t''t, Tuesday, 15 April 2003 14:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bleed-music. Rmember that Autechre review?

mei (mei), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 14:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't buy a Henry Flynt album I saw in a sale. Should I have?

Dadaismus, Tuesday, 15 April 2003 14:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't buy any cds this weekend, because I am fasting from buying cds during April, mainly just to see if I can do it. Which I can't, because I already bought one cd about a week ago, but that's because it was a used Swell Maps cd so I had to buy it. But other than that, I have bought no cds. Hoorah.

Nick A. (Nick A.), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 14:09 (twenty-three years ago)

ah yes. of course.

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 16:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't buy Pearl Jam's first album, or the busted album.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 15 April 2003 17:58 (twenty-three years ago)

one month passes...
Thought about getting the deftones ne one, but didn't.

mei (mei), Sunday, 8 June 2003 08:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I did not buy the Afroman album for $3.

I didn't buy the B&S singles box for $15.

I didn't buy Pearls Before Swine "Balaklava" because I could only find it for ridiculous prices (original pressing, but I'm still not going to pay $30 for that record when I've seen it for $15 elsewhere.)

ian johnson, Sunday, 8 June 2003 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

i should've bought the human league's "dare" instead of talk talk's "laughing stock"

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Sunday, 8 June 2003 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Just buy both.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 8 June 2003 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i should have bought Nurse With Wound's 'Thunder Perfect Mind' instead of 'Spiral Insana'

I didn't buy Queen 'A Kind Of Magic' or the new Ceephax Acid Crew album.

ss, Sunday, 8 June 2003 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

some of us don't make librarian money, ned.

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Sunday, 8 June 2003 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

D'oh.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 8 June 2003 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Despite my curiousity to hear it, I did not pick up the new Metallica.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 8 June 2003 21:23 (twenty-two years ago)

The Skip Spence album and The Madman Laughs at the Best Buy. Instead i got the new Jewel.

gery forbes (gery), Sunday, 8 June 2003 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex, I think you made the right choice passing up the new Metallica.

I went to the record store Friday after work looking for the Campfire Songs (Animal Collective) album or Noriko Tujiko, but they didn't have either album. I foolishy ordered the Campfire Songs album, knowing full well they don't order stuff for customers (at least me, anyway). I was tempted by that Tigersushi compilation, but put it back. I should have picked up something by Dat Politics or the Godz.
