Anyway, the album is good, but it has a sense of detachment that turns me off at times. A bit too pristine on the production side...

I got that idea from their obnoxiously condescending "we like to dance" stage banter when they opened for Sun City Girls, pal. I've commented on it enough here already, but if you wanna read about it again, let's just say I don't find it all that great to be "told" when to and when not to dance. If their music was worth dancing to, I would've. Simple as that.
And just because I make fun of people I see on the L train with goofy haircuts doesn't mean I "don't like" an "area of the city." What the fuck? I mean, I'd make fun of people with goofy haircuts in any part of this city...
...which reminds me, I saw a woman on the N this morning whose hair was a real mess. Girlfriend, get your hair did.

I'm hardly their biggest fan, I just find the way you go about justifying your dislike for them (which is totally understandable) confusing.

I can't remember who said it, but I think in general they have a lot to learn about "tact" (not to mention "stage presence" and whatnot - I mean someone like Alan Bishop can get away with crazy shit because as a performer he holds the audience by the proverbial sack, unlike Outhud). Ya know, people will dance to music if they want to, you don't have to be a jerk about it.
What's confusing? The main thing is I don't like their music. It sounds like warmed-over ESG with a few techno signifiers (to quote Chaos A.D. "snare rush, snare rush...") thrown in for good measure. It's not really exciting to me, although I guess maybe it's indicative of some greater "indie meets dance" thing, I dunno. The attitude/condescenion stuff is just icing on the cake, I guess. I mean, the attitude probably would not bug me so much if their music was something I thought was special, but the music's not, and so it does.
