i havent managed it yet - i might even see how long i can go without doing so...probably ages as i've been caning soulseek a lot more than usual this week - no particular reason for wanting to know whats the first cd you bought other than mild curiosity

I did not buy it, but a friend gave me the new Buzzcocks internet-only live album as a belated Christmas gift this evening, featuring live versions of later-era tracks like "Totally From the Heart". Huzzah.

Weird - my first purchase of the year was Buzzcocks - Entertaining Friends. Best seven bucks I've spent in a while!

I bought Nothing Less Than Brilliant - The Best Of Sandie Shaw on CD for a measly aus$8...I win! It's got "Hand In Glove" and "I Don't Owe You Anything" and everything! And a song called "Heaven Knows I'm Missing Him Now", at which point it all fell into place quite neatly. Oh happy day...

I got Total 4 through the post but I'd bought that well before New Years. It landed straight in my Top 10, too - yum yum. (Also notice the handy and deserved appearance of Autobianchi in my top 101 tracks of '02 when I couldnt find one of the other ones on the list).

Not actually bought anything in '03 yet though. The first song I paid money to hear (on a jukebox) was Carter USM ha ha ha.

I don't think I've bought anything yet this year, but a friend gave me the Forcefield CD plus I got some free techno records (plus Nitzer Ebb's Belief - Holy-I-liked-this-in-middle-school, Batman!) at a friend's gig the other night. Some dude outside of Luxx approached him with a stack of vinyl he needed to sell ASAP for some cash. My friend gave him $2. I should note that all the records have a mysterious white powder all over them (I don't think it's anthrax, yo).

Talk Talk - LAUGHING STOCK. I've been in a mad rush to buy everything this band ever recorded (ever since I heard the Godpiece that was SPIRIT OF EDEN. PLEASE BUY THAT ALBUM IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE SO ALREADY!!!), but so far the only song that's really clicked with me is the beautiful jazzy "New Grass."

Kid Koala - Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I had loved this album when it came out but never bothered to get my own copy. Partly because it also reminds me of an xgf. Still, "Music For Morning People" is one of my favorite 3:47 in wonderfulness. Next on the agenda is a good copy of Scratch Happy Land, where Yoda and Charlie Brown hang out.

I haven't bought any CDs yet, but I bought some vinyl the other day: the new Blufoot / Infinite Livez / Scanky the Ashanti single, the LG& Lopez / Jehst "Rocket Fuel" record and the new Usmaan record on YNR. Oh and a couple of really really beaten up old reggae 7"s for pennies (Big Youth / hudon; Niney / Bionic Dread).

Today: certainly my oddest purchase yet. 40 CD singles for 4 euro. Lots of French house: Phoenix, Benjamin Diamond, Braxe & Falke, Bel Amour, Dax Riders...as well as Ugly Duckling, Eboman, The Horrorist, Tahiti 80, X-Press-2, Reloop, Bastian...all 10 cents apiece!
