Heard it last week... not that impressed, which irks me as I'm a giant fan of his last album. Maybe hanging out with Evan Dando for two years wasn't such a great idea.

I rather like it. It's totally uncomplicated songwriting, quite sweet really. Does get a little cloying after a while, but it's pleasing in shortish busts.

Shit, that's "bursts" obviously...gah.

Ah, but what does everyone make of his cover of Kylie's "Confide In Me"? (Obviously, it's the worst piece of music recorded in 2002, except for The Vines and The Music, obviously).

How do I get to hear that? Not on the album...at least, not that I've noticed. I swear, if he's killed that lush song I'll kick his ass back to Bondi.

I think it's on the single. I never listen to the radio normally, but one morning I idly flipped it on and THERE IT WAS! It HAS killed it. Completely. It's acoustic. Some words are changed. Ben's voice, pretty bad most of the time anyway, sounds utterly embarrassing on the long "con-fiiiiiide" in the chorus.

Needless to say, I fear turning the radio on ever again.

i'll make sure i steer clear of JJJ for the time being then...I'm guessing 2SER would'nt touch it with someone else's, right? Phew.

Hey, apparently he's meant to be a bit of a dick, but I've not heard anything I've actually hated yet - what's the stuff he's done with Waikiki like? (and uh what, in fact, are Waikiki like?)

Charlie (Charlie), Monday, 6 January 2003 03:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Waikiki. Well, their first EP was great. Delicate acoustic sort of thing. Midway between, say, Pulp's "It" album and Frente. Which was nice.

The singles since then have been pretty standard indie-band-reaches-for-pop-stardom sort of thing, except they forgot to write the good songs necessary for such an audacious plan to succeed. "Lucky" is particularly bad.

Rumour has it Ed "I produced Suede, me" is now living in sydney and coining it as quasi-Britpop-producer-for-hire - is this true? If so, good on him...no bugger in the UK wants that kinda sheen anymore, sadly.

Charlie (Charlie), Monday, 6 January 2003 04:13 (twenty-two years ago)

please don't start talking about Waikiki, unless you want me to start screaming loudly and insanely in your ear.

Why was Ed Buller mentioned? did he produce Waikiki? I think his production work was quite excellent.

Ben Lee is total dud.
