Zombie Birdhouse deserves its own thread

There hasn't been enough talk of it... a few mentions here & there..

"Bulldozer - like a giant clam" .. that would be so much better of a theme song for a cruise line ...

..and would I be the only person who absolutely LOVES "Platonic" and "Street Crazies" ?

As I said on that other thread, Zombie Birdhouse is the most underappreciated Iggy album -- is it even out on CD? Anyhow it rules. Except I can't remember if it has "African Man" which is an utter embarassment, but it doesn't matter if it does because "Run Like a Villain" is one of the all-time great post-new-wave "singles."

I think I marginally prefer 'New Values' from around the same time, but 'Zombie Birdhouse' is still good.

give me "Party" any day. now that's an under-rated iggy album.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Monday, 6 January 2003 15:30 (twenty-three years ago)

It's an interesting record with some sub-par songs. He never did one like it and he'd never do one again, so it's got some historical merit. And the cover's great.

(And Party is definitely a cool album.)

"Run Like a Villain" alone makes this record essential.

"Run Like a Villain" is the only song on it I like! Actually I think I may have never gotten through the whole album, which is really rare for me; there must be some really painful songs on it. Overall I think the Arista period is quite good, and rate "New Values" as the best.

Force yourself!

Angry Hills
Eat or Be Eaten
The Horse Song
.. fairly accessible

Zombie Birdhouse is way better than "Party" - - "Pumping For Jill" being about the only song that's memorable. Sea of Love and Time Won't Let Me - ha!

"New Values" - OK - kicks most of Iggy's records .. .. Soldier, right on its heels.

"eggs on plate" not memorable? ha! indeed sir

(NB i've actually never heard zombie birdhouse so i got no right to be posting on this thread anyway)

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Monday, 6 January 2003 19:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm pretty sure it was Iggy who scrawled "THE WORLD IS A BIRDHOUSE" in the basement of a record store I used to work at.

You mean the world isn't a vampire? YOU HURT ME IN MY HEART.

"eggs on plate" not memorable?

"Eggs on Plate" is Ig's best song, like, ever!

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 6 January 2003 20:55 (twenty-three years ago)

"BANG BANG"'s not memorable? Of course it's memorable! PARTY's a great Iggy album! !!!

matt riedl (veal), Monday, 6 January 2003 21:12 (twenty-three years ago)

"happy man" does kinda suck though, you giotta admit that. faux-ska + iggy = a bad idea.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Monday, 6 January 2003 21:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Last I was hanging out with Iggy people (some years back) it was generally conceded that "New Values" was a masterpiece, so yeah, check New Values before Zombie Birdhouse. But both of them AND "Party" are great -- "Time Won't Let Me" and "Sea of Love" OK not so great, but "Bang Bang" and "Pumping for Jill" are both wondaful songs.
