anyone read it yet ?
can't recall how ILMers feel about kate bush.
anyway, looks interestin, as there hasn't
been any proper press about her, nor any kind
of career overview for years and years.
i remember maxwell sayin she was 'the bomb'
on his unplugged record, and last yr at Q awards
there was a spontaneous room-wide ovation when she
took to the stage for her lifetime
acheivement thing.

'hounds of love' album still ace after all these years.

there hasn't been any proper press about her

Maybe because her last really good album was from the early 80's. A lot of the synth sounds on Hounds of Love were born old and dated.

Rockist Scientist, Tuesday, 7 January 2003 22:41 (twenty-three years ago)

can't recall how ILMers feel about kate bush.

I like her, and have always intended to dig deeper than the few albums I own (The Kick Inside and The Dreaming). I'm looking forward to reading the Mojo article.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 7 January 2003 22:46 (twenty-three years ago)

The cynic in me sez that Mojo would cover Kate Bush so aging collector fanboys can have photos to drool over.

But that's not exactly fair to anybody. I think her music's fine, for the most part.

hstencil, Tuesday, 7 January 2003 22:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I love it when Mojo - and it is always Mojo - suddenly chimes with what I'm listening to heavily in the back catalogue dept. It ran that 'reggae issue' (a bit patchy but a grebt sampler!) just when I was listening to tons of Jamaican music this summer, and now I'm on a huge Kate Bush kick it goes the full cover monty. Certain other magazines, it must be said, manage unerringly to give cover space to whichever band I am absolutely least interested at the moment. How do they do it?

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 7 January 2003 22:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Hounds of Love was manna for the 10-CDs-a-year crowd back when it was current.

J0hn Darn13ll3 (J0hn Darn13ll3), Tuesday, 7 January 2003 23:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Sensual World has bedazzling songs galore. Rocket's Tale, several others.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Tuesday, 7 January 2003 23:58 (twenty-three years ago)

in 89 i listened to absolutely nothing but wuthering heights and lenny kravitz over and over and over....my friend gillman in north carolina bought the entire record collection at lunch for your ears by mail order after jesse helms virtually put the whole avante garde scene out of business....now,if you get a grant...they call you a wimp......anyways...i didn't pay too much attention to that stuff....i was too busy watching mtv from 6:00 pm to8:00 pm just to irritate the hell out him....by my reasoning,if anything was going to happen to change music forever it would happen right inside of this box.....i now have every song by paula abdul memorised......2 years later....nirvanna broke...yawn....actually,no, i like them

georgia boy, Wednesday, 8 January 2003 00:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Kate Bush is really on the cover this month? I used to buy Mojo every issue, but haven't bought the last few because I saw the Beatles on the cover again, and then the next one didn't seem that interesting, etc. I don't care how different and insightful the articles are (and in fairness they usually are), I really don't want to buy one more issue with the Beatles on the cover. Ever again.

Sean (Sean), Wednesday, 8 January 2003 00:56 (twenty-three years ago)

ah but be careful sean because there are mojo
*specials* that are all about the beatles, but they aren't
proper mojos, they are different. there's only been 1 mojo
proper fabs cover since the george one
when he died 13 issues ago, but
2 specials with them on, so it *feels* there's been more.

u probably knew that but i'm just making sure.

piscesboy, Wednesday, 8 January 2003 02:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I look forward to reading that. Recently bought 'Hounds of Love' and 'Sensual World' on CD after having them on tape for ages. HOL is an incredible record, and while SW isn't quite as consistently brilliant it's got some great stuff on it (the title track and 'Never be mine' particularly stood out on listening to it the other day).

James Ball (James Ball), Wednesday, 8 January 2003 11:22 (twenty-three years ago)

but..but...she's not dead yet. uncut and mojo = articles about dead rock star's trousers!

doom-e, Wednesday, 8 January 2003 11:46 (twenty-three years ago)

This 'announcement' is a surprise to me, and a most pleasant one. Mojo is certainly kicking Uncut's butt right now.

can't recall how ILMers feel about kate bush
Kate Bush: Klassik or Dudd

(we're still waiting for Ewing on "The Dreaming" I notice)

Jeff W, Wednesday, 8 January 2003 11:57 (twenty-three years ago)

so it's true - she's going to die? sad now. whenever somebody gets a cover on mojo or uncut - they are dead or close too...

oh...maybe when i am fourty i will understand.

doom-e, Wednesday, 8 January 2003 11:58 (twenty-three years ago)

or if not at forty then certainly
when you're sixty-four

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 8 January 2003 12:05 (twenty-three years ago)

this band warming up hear at the knitting factory can't decide if they're jeff buckley...dave mathews...iron maiden...or gwar.....wait a minute....it must be dave mathews...hmmm.....the only real reason k.b.strange never made it huge stateside is her fear of large bodies of water......teriffied of airplanes....terrified of boats......so she cloned herself, and morphed the offspring with the greek chick who sang "capitan mikali".....added a drop of johhny rottens' piss....and voila!.....tori amos appears......

please don't kid around about katies dears' health,o.c....she got her spine she', Thursday, 9 January 2003 01:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I just bought the January issue, and Kurt Cobain is on the cover, not Kate Bush.

Sean (Sean), Thursday, 9 January 2003 02:37 (twenty-three years ago)

piscesboy, Thursday, 9 January 2003 04:20 (twenty-three years ago)

James Ball (James Ball), Thursday, 9 January 2003 10:30 (twenty-three years ago)

bahahahaah....further proof mojo and uncut are poo! no..no...you see, sir, i bought the issue with the other dead rock star on the cover!

doom-e, Thursday, 9 January 2003 11:50 (twenty-three years ago)

all of these 'music' mags are terrible. I haven't even bothered to buy the latest wire yet.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 9 January 2003 11:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Uncut is poo? and here I was looking forward to reading your reviews in the upcoming edition, doomie..

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 9 January 2003 12:12 (twenty-three years ago)

the new wire's not worth buying. doomie's first review appears in the current uncut.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 9 January 2003 12:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I read yr review's in the latest uncut so now I'll have to look for doomie's actually.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 9 January 2003 12:35 (twenty-three years ago)

please don't look at those reviews....my upcoming windsor for the derby review is much much better! in the nme....

politics of dancing in the review i.e. filled up my dance card so i'm nobody's private dancer.

doom-e, Thursday, 9 January 2003 12:44 (twenty-three years ago)

i.e. just because i've signed my name, don't mean a thing...

doom-e, Thursday, 9 January 2003 12:45 (twenty-three years ago)

or check my revola feature once i track down joe foster for an interview...........................................................

doom-e, Thursday, 9 January 2003 12:46 (twenty-three years ago)

oi vey, do what you will, but let's not mention it, again, eh? uncut etc, isnt poo ... but i prefer to stay underground where it is warmer.

doom-e, Thursday, 9 January 2003 12:50 (twenty-three years ago)

plus i have a whole whack of stuff coming out in the american magazines....teehee.

doom-e, Thursday, 9 January 2003 12:58 (twenty-three years ago)

When is this cockfarming Mojo coming out then? I want to read about Kate Bush.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:00 (twenty-three years ago)

they are waiting for her to die, obviously.

doom-e, Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:01 (twenty-three years ago)

doomie- I'm going to read it and it bettah be good.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:05 (twenty-three years ago)

sure, read it, but it's not me....*shrugs shoulders*

doom-e, Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:07 (twenty-three years ago)

it's not me, but someone playing me on tv.

doom-e, Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:08 (twenty-three years ago)

OK

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:10 (twenty-three years ago)

let's never mention it again, please.... i'm just going to put it in my clippings file and forget about it.

doom-e, Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:11 (twenty-three years ago)

no problem

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:15 (twenty-three years ago)

cheers...

doom-e, Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:16 (twenty-three years ago)

So which American magazines is your writing going to be in, doom-e?

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:29 (twenty-three years ago)

you have to come across me by accident! : - )

doom-e, Thursday, 9 January 2003 13:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm a little annoyed with my original glibly critical post here. I still think that her best albums are well behind her, but she achieved a lot more than average on those few albums. I just replaced my dead cassette copy of The Dreaming last night, and these songs still really draw me in (even making me think about the lyrics in a way I rarely do). Sometimes there is a gutsy emotional rawness to it that is pretty out of the ordinary.

And even though Hounds of Love seems pretty flawed, it has enough great passages and moments that it's worth having.

Is Kate Bush prog? What do you all think?

Rockist Scientist, Sunday, 12 January 2003 17:09 (twenty-three years ago)

one month passes...
Almost two months later, and I'd like to say that it's Santana on the cover, not Kate, and the article is great, though nowhere near 30 pages.

I'd never heard Kate Bush before this weeked: reminds me of a mixing of Court & Spark era Joni Mitchell with Tori Amos. I don't really go for either of those people, bit I like this.

dleone (dleone), Saturday, 1 March 2003 22:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Err, Dominique it's Kate. Maybe it's a UK-US thing.

Cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 1 March 2003 23:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Or, a Two Difft Covers thing.

Cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 1 March 2003 23:08 (twenty-three years ago)

To answer the Rockist's question: KB is plenty prog, or has been at times. She makes the Gibraltar list, anyway.

Bryan (Bryan), Saturday, 1 March 2003 23:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Cozen, yeah it's def Santana on this one, as there's a big article on him too in there. It also has a big thing on "UK eccentrics", of which Bush receives the biggest article.

Kate Bush is 1000x hotter than Santana too.

dleone (dleone), Sunday, 2 March 2003 00:24 (twenty-three years ago)

obv Tom is editor of Mojo, please direct your questions to him. also Tom could you become editor of some other music magazines and keep them from sucking. special attention directed towards Spin, of course.
